You Are the Light of the World

Image
Matthew 5:14-16 Our true also story comes from a part of the Bible called the Gospel of Matthew. Matthew was a disciple of Jesus. That means Jesus was his teacher. And the word gospel means “good news!” Have you ever seen a bright light in the dark? Maybe it was a night-light in your room or a flashlight on a camping trip. Light helps us see. Light helps us feel safe. Light shows the way to go. Jesus once told His friends something very special. He said, “You are the light of the world.” That means when we follow Jesus, His light shines through us. Jesus explained, “No one lights a lamp and hides it under a basket. Instead, they put it on a stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.” A light is meant to shine where everyone can see it. Jesus told His friends to let their light shine so that others would see their good deeds and praise God. That means when we are kind, when we help, and when we show love, we are shining with the light of Jesus. So, remember: Jesus is the light ...

The Woman at the Well

John 4:1–30 Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called the Gospel of John. John was one of the friends and helpers of Jesus. And the word “Gospel” means “good news!” One day, Jesus was tired from traveling and sat down beside a well. A well is a deep place in the ground where people get water. A woman came to the well to fill her jar with water. Jesus surprised her by talking to her. Usually, people did not talk to her or treat her kindly. But Jesus did. He asked her for a drink of water, and then He told her something very special: “I can give you living water.” The woman was curious. She thought He meant water from the well, but Jesus meant something even better. He meant the love of God that never runs out. Jesus’ living water makes our hearts full of joy, peace, and love. The woman realized Jesus was not just any man. He was the Savior God had promised! She was so excited that she ran back to town, leaving her jar behind. She told everyone, “Come and see Jesus!” And many ...

Jesus Heals at the Pool

John 5:1–9 Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called the Gospel of John. John was one of the friends and helpers of Jesus. And the word “Gospel” means “good news!” There was a special pool in the city of Jerusalem. Many people who were sick or could not walk went there. They hoped the pool would help them get better. One man had been sick for a very long time—thirty-eight years! He stayed by the pool, waiting and waiting for someone to help him. But no one ever did. One day, Jesus came to the pool. He saw the man lying there. Jesus asked him, “Do you want to get well?” The man said, “I can’t. No one will help me get into the pool.” Then Jesus said something amazing: “Get up, pick up your mat, and walk.” Right away, the man was healed! He stood up, rolled up his mat, and began to walk for the very first time in years. Everyone was amazed. The man was no longer weak. Jesus had made him strong! Jesus cared about this man, and He cares about us too. When we are sick or hurting, ...

Jesus Is the Light of the World

John 1:4–5; John 8:12; John 9:5 Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called the Gospel of John. John was one of the friends and helpers of Jesus. And the word “Gospel” means “good news!” Have you ever been in the dark? Maybe you were in your room at night, and it was hard to see. The dark can make us feel a little scared. But what happens when someone turns on a light? Suddenly, you can see everything again, and you don’t feel so afraid. The Bible tells us that Jesus is like that light. John wrote, “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” That means no matter how dark things feel, Jesus’ light always wins. One day, Jesus told the people, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life.” Jesus wanted His friends to know that He helps us find the right way to live. He shows us God’s love and keeps us from being afraid. Another time, Jesus met a man who could not see. The man was bl...
