The Shepherds Hear Good News

Image
Luke 2:8-20 Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called the Gospel of Luke. Luke loved Jesus and wanted others to know and love Jesus, too. And the word gospel means “good news!” One quiet night near the town of Bethlehem, some shepherds were taking care of their sheep. The stars twinkled above them, and the fields were calm. The shepherds watched their sheep closely to keep them safe from danger. It was an ordinary night, just like many others. But suddenly, something amazing happened! A bright light filled the sky, and an angel of the Lord appeared right in front of the shepherds. The shepherds were so surprised and afraid that they covered their faces. But the angel said, “Do not be afraid! I bring you good news of great joy for everyone. Today in Bethlehem, a Savior has been born. He is Christ the Lord.” The angel told them, “You will find the baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” Then, all at once, the sky filled with more angels—hundreds and hundreds of them! Th...

The Birth of Jesus

Luke 2:1-7 Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called the Gospel of Luke. Luke loved Jesus and wanted others to know and love Jesus, too. And the word gospel means “good news!” A long time ago, a ruler named Caesar Augustus made a new rule. He said that everyone had to go back to the town their family came from so their names could be counted. Mary and Joseph lived in a town called Nazareth, but Joseph’s family was from Bethlehem. So Mary and Joseph packed their things and began a long journey. The road to Bethlehem was dusty and crowded with people. Mary was going to have her baby soon, and Joseph walked carefully beside her to make sure she was safe. Step by step, they traveled over hills and through little towns, until at last they saw Bethlehem ahead of them. But Bethlehem was very full! So many people had come that every house and guest room was crowded. Mary and Joseph knocked on doors, but there was no room anywhere for them to stay. At last, someone showed them a quie...

Mary Visits Elizabeth

Luke 1:39-56 Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called the Gospel of Luke. Luke loved Jesus and wanted others to know and love Jesus, too. And the word gospel means “good news!” A long time ago, in the days before Jesus was born, Mary had just heard wonderful news from God. An angel had told her that she would have a very special baby—God’s Son, Jesus. Mary’s heart was full of amazement, and she wanted to visit someone who would understand. So Mary packed her things and traveled to see her relative Elizabeth, who lived in the hills far away. Elizabeth was also going to have a baby, even though she was older and had never been able to have a child before. God had done a miracle for her, too! Her baby would grow up to help people get ready for Jesus. When Mary arrived at Elizabeth’s house, she called out a happy greeting. As soon as Elizabeth heard Mary’s voice, something amazing happened—Elizabeth’s baby jumped for joy inside her! Elizabeth felt God’s Holy Spirit fill her hea...

The Angel Visits Mary

Luke 1:26-38 Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called the Gospel of Luke. Luke loved Jesus and wanted others to know and love Jesus, too. And the word gospel means “good news!” A long time ago, in a small town called Nazareth, lived a young woman named Mary. Mary loved God and wanted to live in a way that pleased Him. One day, something amazing happened that Mary did not expect at all. God sent an angel named Gabriel to visit her. When Mary saw the angel, she was surprised and a little afraid. But Gabriel spoke kindly to her. He said, “Do not be afraid, Mary. God is very happy with you.” Then the angel told her something wonderful. He said that God had chosen her to have a very special baby. “You will name Him Jesus,” the angel said. “He will be great, and He will be the Son of God.” Mary listened carefully. She did not understand how this could happen, so she asked the angel, “How can this be?” Gabriel told her that God’s Holy Spirit would make it happen, because nothing i...
