1 Kings 17:7-16 Our true story comes from the book, or part, of the Bible called First Kings (1 Kings). It is the first book in the Bible that tells about the kings of Israel. Elijah lived in a town called Tishbe in Gilead. Elijah loved God. He talked to God, and he listened to God (The name Elijah means "My God is Yahweh"). Elijah knew God would take care of him. Elijah traveled to tell people about a famine that would happen soon. He had been traveling a long way and was thirsty and hungry. He needed help. So, God told him to go to a town called Zarephath and ask a woman to help him. He went to the woman and told her he needed help. He was hungry and tired and wanted some water and bread. The woman wanted to help him, but she had a big problem. She only had enough bread for herself and her son. She said, "All I have is a little flour and a little oil. I was gathering sticks to make a fire to cook just one more meal for my son and me." ...

Nehemiah 1-6 Our true story comes from the book, or part, of the Bible called Nehemiah (pronounced “nee-ah-MY-ah”). Nehemiah lived a long time ago. He loved God very much. Nehemiah did a very important job for the king. One day, Nehemiah had visitors from the city of Jerusalem, his home. They told Nehemiah the walls of Jerusalem were broken down. When Nehemiah learned about Jerusalem, he became very sad. Can you guess what Nehemiah decided to do? He decided to fix the walls of Jerusalem. Nehemiah told the king what he wanted to do. And the king helped Nehemiah! The king gave him help to rebuild the wall. With the king's help, Nehemiah traveled all the way from Susa to Jerusalem. Acts 9:36-39 Our true story comes from a book of the Bible called Acts. That name is short for “the Acts of the Apostles.” The word "Apostle" is another word to describe a helper of Jesus. Our story is about a woman named Tabitha. Some of her friends called her Dorcas. Tabitha lived in a town by the water called Joppa. It was a busy city. Many boats came and went. The Bible says that Tabitha loved Jesus and was always helping others. Tabitha would look for people who needed help, like women whose husbands had died or families who didn’t have much money. Tabitha would make them clothes. Tabitha helped lots and lots of people. She would help people if their clothes got too small because they were growing. God chose Moses to be a great leader. Moses led God’s people out of Egypt. And they were on their way to their new home. But the people had followed Moses for a long time and they were beginning to whine and complain. The people had been walking and walking and walking in the desert. Deserts are hot and there is not a lot of water there. God’s people were getting very, very hot and very, very thirsty. So, God’s people started to complain. They said, “We’re hot! We’re thirsty! Our story is about a mommy and her little baby. The baby's name was Moses. Moses’s mommy loved him very much. But there was a problem: Moses and his family lived in a place called Egypt. The king of Egypt was called Pharaoh, and he was a mean, mean man who didn’t like the baby boys in Moses’s family. One day, Pharaoh said all of the baby boys had to be taken away! This was bad! What would Moses’s mommy do? Moses’s mommy wanted to protect her baby, so this is what she did. She made a very special basket for him. She made sure no water could get in it. Genesis 21:14-20 Our true story comes from the book, or part, of the Bible called Genesis. The word genesis means “the beginning.” Our Bible story is about a woman named Hagar and her son. They were in a desert. A desert is hot and sandy, and it is hard to find water there. Hagar and her son had walked in the desert for a long time and they were tired, hot and thirsty. Think about how tired and hot and thirsty you would be walking in a desert. That’s how Hagar and her son felt. But they had no food or water. What would you have done if you were tired, hot and thirsty and you had no food or water? Hagar and her son began to cry. Hagar thought they were all alone in the desert and that no one could hear them crying. But God heard them crying. God sent an angel to tell Hagar that He heard her son crying, and the angel helped her see a well full of water! They had water to drink!
