Jesus Makes Breakfast for His Friends

John 21:1-14

Our true story is found in a part of the Bible called the Gospel of John. John was one of the friends and helpers of Jesus. And the word "Gospel" means "good news!"

After Jesus came back to life, He wanted to see His friends again. One morning, some of His disciples were out on a big lake, trying to catch fish.


 They worked all night, but they didn’t catch anything—not even one little fish!


As the sun came up, Jesus was standing on the shore, but the disciples didn’t know it was Him yet. Jesus called out, “Friends, did you catch any fish?”


They shouted back, “No!”


Jesus said, “Throw your net on the other side of the boat.” So they did—and guess what? The net filled with so many fish that they could hardly pull it back into the boat!


Then one of the disciples said, “It’s Jesus!” 


Peter was so excited that he jumped right into the water and hurried to the shore. 


When they all got to land, they saw a little fire with fish and bread cooking on it. Jesus said, “Come and have breakfast.” He gave them some bread and fish. Jesus was so kind and loving. He wanted to spend time with His friends and take care of them.


Jesus loves His friends and takes care of them. He helped them catch fish when they were tired and hungry. Then He made them breakfast! Jesus loves us, too, and He wants to be close to us every day.


Dear God,

Thank You for Jesus. Thank You that He came back to see His friends and showed them how much He loved them. Thank You that He helped them catch fish and made them breakfast. Help us remember that Jesus loves us and takes care of us, too. We love You, God.

In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Paraphrase: Jesus is alive, just like He said!



Activities

These activities help preschoolers engage with the story through movement, crafts, music, and storytelling, making the lesson fun and memorable.


1. “Fishing with Jesus” Game (Active Play + Music Activity)

Objective: Help children remember that Jesus helped His friends catch lots of fish.

Materials: Blue blanket or large sheet (to be the “lake”), paper fish, a toy fishing pole or homemade “net” from a small basket or strainer.

Activity:

• Spread the blue blanket on the floor and place paper fish on it.

• Play quiet background music and let each child take turns “fishing.

• When a fish is caught, everyone says, “Jesus helped His friends catch fish!”

End by singing a simple chorus like “Jesus loves me, this I know…” together while gently swaying or tapping.


2. Breakfast with Jesus Pretend Play

Objective: Encourage imaginative play around the theme of Jesus making breakfast.

Materials: Play food (fish and bread if possible), small plates, toy fire made of tissue paper or felt.

Activity:

• Set up a pretend breakfast area.

• Invite children to sit together and “share breakfast” like Jesus and His friends.

• Ask: “How do you think the disciples felt when they saw Jesus again?”

• Reinforce: “Jesus loves spending time with His friends—and that includes us!”


3. Net Full of Fish Craft

Objective: Reinforce the miracle of the full net.

Materials: Paper plates (cut in half), yarn or string, tape, paper fish, glue or stickers.

Activity:

• Punch holes along the edge of the half plate and help children lace yarn through it like a fishing net.

• Glue or stick paper fish inside the net.

• Write: “Jesus helped His friends!” on each one.

• Children can take their craft home to tell the story to their families.


4. “Jesus Loves Us” Heart Coloring Page

Objective: Celebrate Jesus’ love through art and quiet reflection.

Materials: Heart-shaped coloring sheets, crayons or markers, fish and bread stickers (optional).

Activity:

• Let children color the heart while you softly say: “Jesus made breakfast for His friends. He loved them so much. Jesus loves us too.”

• Help children repeat: “Jesus loves me and takes care of me.”
