Paul Trusts God in a Storm
Acts 27:1-44; Acts 28:1-10
Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called Acts, which is short for “the Acts of the Apostles.” An apostle is someone who is sent to teach others about Jesus.
Paul was on a boat. He was going to a faraway place called Rome.
The waves were big, and the wind blew strong. A storm came, and the boat rocked and bumped!
Everyone on the boat was scared.
But Paul said, “Don’t be afraid! God is with us. He told me we will all be safe.”
The storm kept going and going. It was loud, and the boat broke into pieces.
But just like God said, everyone got to land safely!
After the storm, they were on an island. The people there were kind. They helped Paul and his friends.
Paul helped them too. Some people were sick, and Paul prayed for them. God helped them feel better. Even though he was shipwrecked, Paul still showed God’s love.
Even in a big storm, Paul trusted God. God helped Paul and kept everyone safe. We can trust God too—He is always with us and helps us help others!
Dear God,
Thank You for being with Paul during the big storm. Thank You for keeping everyone safe and helping Paul help others. Please help us remember that You are with us when we feel scared. Help us to trust You and be kind, just like Paul. We love you, God.
In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
Bible Verse: “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe in Me as well.” — John 14:1, BSB
Paraphrase: “Don’t be afraid. Trust God, and trust Jesus too.”
Activities
These activities help preschoolers engage with the story through movement, crafts, music, and storytelling, making the lesson fun and memorable.
1. Storm and Safe Land Game
Objective: Act out the storm and landing to help children remember that God kept Paul safe.
Materials: Blue blanket or sheet, brown paper or rug for “land.”
Activity:
Shake the blue blanket like a stormy sea while children pretend to be on a boat. Then say, “Land!” and let them run to the brown “land.” Repeat with excitement!
Say: “Even in a big storm, God helped Paul and kept everyone safe!”
2. Boat Craft
Objective: Help children remember the boat and the storm.
Materials: Paper plates, crayons, glue, craft sticks, small paper triangle sails.
Activity:
Cut a paper plate in half and let children color it to look like a boat. Attach a sail using a craft stick. Add little paper waves if desired.
Say: “Paul was on a boat, and the storm was big—but God kept him safe!”
3. Helping Hands Island Role Play
Objective: Practice helping like Paul did after the storm.
Materials: Bandages, toy dishes, small blankets or towels.
Activity:
Pretend you are on the island of Malta. Let children take turns helping “sick” friends with pretend food, bandages, or blankets, just like Paul did.
Say: “After the storm, Paul helped people. We can help others too!”
4. Trusting God Song (Music Activity)
Objective: Celebrate trusting God in every situation.
Materials: Rhythm instruments or clapping hands.
Activity:
Sing to the tune of “London Bridge”:
“God was with Paul in the storm,
In the storm, in the storm.
God was with Paul in the storm,
And He’s with me too!”
Let children clap, shake instruments, or stomp along.
Say: “God helps us when we’re scared. We can always trust Him!”
