God Made Animals

Genesis 1:24-25, 30; Psalm 104:10-12, 17-18

The Bible tells us what God made. We learned that God made daytime and the sun that shines. God made the nighttime with the moon and the stars.

Then God made the water filled with all the things that live in the water. God made the sky and filled it with birds.

God also made the dry land and the many plants, like trees. God saw what He had made. It was very good.

But God wasn’t finished making things yet. God said, “Let there be all kinds of living creatures, or animals to live on the land.

Let there be livestock, animals that move along the ground, and wild animals.” And that is what happened. There were all kinds of animals! Animals appeared everywhere! There were big animals like the elephant and hippopotamus.

There were tiny animals like ants and flies.

God made livestock or farm animals. One type of livestock is a cow. A baby cow is a calf.

God made the many insects and animals that move along the ground. One was a worm.

God made wild animals to live in jungles, forests, and deserts. One of those animals was the lion.

God took care of the animals He had made—the livestock such as the calf, the small animals like the worm, and the wild animals like the lion. God provided food for them to eat and water for them to drink. God made different places for the different animals to live.

When He was done, God looked at everything He had made. And it was very good.

God showed us how powerful He is when He made animals. He is our great and mighty God!

Bible Paraphrase: God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. (God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day. Genesis 1:31 NIV)

Text Truth: God made animals.

Family Devotional

Read Psalm 104 aloud as a prayer of praise and worship. As you teach your child about God's creation of animals, ask the Lord to help them understand how great He is.
