We Can Follow Jesus by Loving Others

Image
John 13:34-35 Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called John. John was one of the friends and helpers of Jesus. Jesus and His friends were having dinner one night when Jesus said, "I’m going to tell you a brand new rule to follow." Do you want to know what it is? Jesus said, "The most important thing you can do is to love others the way I have loved you." Wow! Jesus said that if we want to follow Him, the number one thing we can do is to love others! Let’s practice loving others! Imagine you and a friend are ridding bikes and the friend falls down. What do you do? Do you stop and help? Or do you keep riding? You stop and help! That’s loving others like Jesus! Imagine your friend is playing in the sandbox with you, but you’ve only got one shovel. Do you keep it for yourself or share it with your friend? Yes, you share! That’s loving like Jesus. Imagine you find out your older brother accidentally broke your LEGO® creation. Do you s

The Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John Our true story comes from parts of the Bible called Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Those are the names of four people who loved Jesus and told others about Jesus so they could love and follow Him, too. Jesus had twelve special friends. They followed Jesus and did what He did. They were called the disciples. Their names were Peter, Andrew, James, John, the other James, Matthew, Philip, Bartholomew, Thomas, Judas, Thaddeus, and Simon. Peter and Andrew were brothers. And so were James and John. And all four of them were fishermen. Matthew used to be a tax collector. And Judas was in charge of the group’s money. There was Simon and the other James who was younger than James the fisherman. And then Philip, Bartholomew, Thomas, and Thaddeus. Do you know the most important thing they did? When Jesus said "Follow me," they did it! They became the disciples, and Jesus was their leader. Everywhere Jesus wen

Matthew 9:9-12 Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called Matthew. Matthew was one of the special helpers of Jesus. Our story begins in a town with lots of people. And in this town, there was a man named Matthew. Matthew was a tax collector. That means his job was to collect money for the town from everyone. But the problem was that tax collectors took more than they were supposed to, which meant that nobody wanted to be their friend. One day, someone very important came to town. Jesus, God’s Son—the most important leader ever—came to town! Can you guess who Jesus talked to? Yes! Jesus talked to Matthew. He walked right up to Matthew and said, "Follow me!" Do you think Matthew followed Him? Of course! Matthew got up and followed Him because Jesus is the most special leader. The people who saw Jesus talk to Matthew were confused. They didn’t know why Jesus wanted to be friends with a tax collector. But everyone can follow Jesus and be His friend.

Matthew 4:18-22; Luke 5:1-11 Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called Matthew. Matthew was one of the special helpers of Jesus. Our true story also comes from a part of the Bible called Luke. Luke loved Jesus and wanted others to know and love Jesus, too. Our story begins with two fishermen named Peter and Andrew. Instead of using a fishing pole, Peter and Andrew used a big net to catch fish. Peter and Andrew were fishing when Jesus came walking by! They had seen Jesus do amazing things. They knew He was a really special leader. Jesus said to Peter and Andrew, "Come, follow me! We will look for people instead of fish." Jesus, the most special leader of all time, wanted the fisherman to come with HIM? Right away, Peter and Andrew left their nets behind and followed Jesus. Then Jesus saw two more fishermen, James and John, in a boat. James and John were fishing with their dad and Jesus said, "Come, follow me!" Right away, they got
