Do Everything in Love

Image
1 Corinthians 16:14 Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called the First Letter to the Corinthians. The letter was written by a man named Paul, who loved Jesus and wanted everyone to know about Him. If Jesus had a party, EVERYONE would be invited. Grown-ups would be invited! And children would be invited! Everyone can celebrate that Jesus loves them because Jesus loves everyone. And Jesus wants US to love everyone, too. In fact, Jesus said, “Do everything in love.” Wow, everything? Let’s think about that. Let’s say you’re at the grocery store, and the checkout worker seems like he’s had a sad day. You’re done with your groceries and are just about to leave. What could you do to show love? You could say, ‘Bye! Thank you. Have a great day!’ I bet they would smile and wave back! Okay, let’s try another one. Your brother runs into the kitchen and really wants a . . . COOKIE! But there’s only ONE left. And you’re holding it. He’s upset that he didn’t get a cookie. What could you d

Zacchaeus

Luke 19:1-10 Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called the Gospel of Luke. Luke loved Jesus and wanted others to know and love Jesus, too. And the word gospel means “good news!” We begin with a man named Zacchaeus. Zacchaeus was a tax collector. His job was to collect money from everyone in town.  So, let’s say you have five dollars. Count with me: one, two, three, four, five. And you owe three dollars for taxes. Count with me: one, two, three. The problem was, Zacchaeus would take MORE than you owed for taxes. How many do we have left? Two dollars. Zacchaeus would take that, too. So, Zacchaeus would take ALL FIVE of your dollars. That’s what Zacchaeus did day after day. He took MORE money than he was supposed to and kept it for himself! It was wrong. And it made everyone really mad at Zacchaeus. But one day, something wonderful happened. Jesus came to town! Everyone was so excited to see Him. Zacchaeus was excited, too. But there was one problem. Zacchaeus was too short to

Woman at the Well

John 4:1-30 Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called the Gospel of John. John was one of the friends and helpers of Jesus. And the word "Gospel" means "good news!" A long time ago, people would go to a well to get water. They didn’t have sinks or refrigerators or water bottles. If someone was thirsty, they had to go to a well for water!  And in this particular story, can you guess who was thirsty? Jesus! He had been walking a long way, and He was tired.  So Jesus sat down at a well. A woman came to the well to get water while Jesus sat there. The woman looked at Jesus and knew that they were from different towns. Jesus asked the woman, "Will you give me a drink?"  The woman was surprised Jesus asked her for water because she knew people from her town were not friends with people from His town. So the woman said, "Why are you asking me for a drink?"  Do you think that where she was from mattered to Jesus? No, of course not! No matter w

Banquet Parable

Matthew 22:8-10 Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called the Gospel of Matthew. Matthew was a disciple of Jesus. That means Jesus was his teacher. And the word gospel means “good news!” Jesus sometimes taught people using special teaching stories called parables. Jesus told a story about a huge party table that could seat lots of people. Did you know that when you invite someone to a party, you call them your “guest”? It’s true! And when you have a party guest, you want them to feel loved and welcome. And you want to have your table all ready. You put out decorations and flowers, and all kinds of things to make the table look nice. But then you need a few more things. What else do you think a party table needs for our guests?  Some plates would be helpful. And, if we have plates for our party guests, I think we need food to put on them. We don’t want the guests to be hungry. What should we serve? Your guests will eat well at your party.  Oh! And, we’ll want to add some musi
