Ruth and Naomi Were Thankful

Ruth 1-2 Our true story comes from the Bible. It is found in the book, or part, of the Bible called Ruth. This book is named after one of the people in our story. Our story starts with a woman named Naomi. She was very sad because her husband and her sons had died. She had no family. She was all alone, so she decided to go back to the town where she grew up. There is another woman in our story. Her name is Ruth. Ruth had married Naomi’s son. Ruth said, “I’ll go with you, Naomi. I’ll be your family.” So, Naomi and Ruth walked from Moab to the town where Naomi used to live. The town is called Bethlehem. Then Naomi and Ruth started to feel hungry. Ruth and Naomi didn’t have any money to buy food. So, Ruth went to see if she could find something to eat. Not far from where they lived, a man named Boaz had people working in his fields to gather grain. The fields were big, and the workers were fast. 2 Chronicles 32:1-23 Our true story comes from the part, or book, of the Bible called Second Chronicles (2 Chronicles). It is the second of two books in the Bible called Chronicles. The word "chronicle" means "written history." A man named Hezekiah [HEZ-uh-kigh-uh] was the king of Judah. Hezekiah was a brave king, because he knew God was the one true God and the MOST powerful. King Hezekiah’s job was to take care of God’s people. One day another king came along named Sennacherib [sen-AK-er-ib]. And Sennacherib was a very mean king. The mean king and his army were on their way to fight God’s people. But King Hezekiah was ready to lead and take care of God’s people. He gave everyone jobs to get ready for the mean army. He had them fix the walls around the city of Jerusalem. And King Hezekiah had them get the water ready and gather the supplies. Then King Hezekiah brought all the people together. Exodus 1:22–2:10 Our true Bible story comes from a book, or part, of the Bible called Exodus. The word “exodus” means to leave or go away from. Our story is about a big sister named Miriam. Miriam had a mom, and she had a baby brother named Moses. One day, a very mean king named Pharaoh decided he wanted to get rid of all the baby boys in the land. Miriam’s mom had to make a plan to keep baby Moses safe. Her mom put Moses in a basket. And then she placed the basket with baby Moses inside in the tall grass by the river. She told Miriam to watch over him. Miriam had to be so brave! Miriam hid in the tall grass and watched over her baby brother. Just then a princess came by the water. Do you know what she found? Yes! She found baby Moses in the basket! Miriam knew she needed to be brave and help her baby brother. She knew God was with her, so she was could be brave. Judges 7:9-22 Our true story comes from a part, or book, of the Bible called Judges. A judge is someone who tells people what the law says. God told a man named Gideon to go and battle a group of people called the Midianites. God's command made Gideon very scared. He was afraid to battle the Midianites because the Midianites had a BIG army. There were SO many Midianite soldiers that you couldn’t even count them all. But God told Gideon that he would win the battle. Gideon didn’t know how his little army would beat the very big Midianite army, but God knows everything. Gideon knew that if God said he would win, then he would win! Gideon knew that God would help him be brave. So, Gideon took some trumpets. Then Gideon took some jars and torches. And he gave them to his very small army. Gideon and his army carefully and quietly snuck down to the Midianite camp at night while they were sleeping. Then they blew their trumpets. Daniel 6:1-23 Our true story is found in a part of the Bible called Daniel. Daniel was a man that loved God very much and lived in a land called Babylon. Daniel loved God and prayed to Him every day. Daniel worked for the king. King Darius liked Daniel, and they were friends. This made some other guys very jealous and grumpy. These grumpy guys wanted to get Daniel in trouble, and they knew that He prayed to God every day. So, they tricked the king into making a new rule. “Hear ye! Hear ye! There is a new rule. No one can pray to anyone except for King Darius, because King Darius is awesome. If you break this rule, you will be thrown into a den of hungry lions!” When Daniel heard about the king’s new rule, do you think he stopped praying to God? No way! Daniel knew that God was with him, and that made him brave. So, he kept praying to God every day.
