Gideon’s Army

Image
Judges 7:1-8 Our true story comes from a part called the Book of Judges. A judge is someone who tells people what the law says. We begin with a man named Gideon. One day, God told Gideon to take an army and defeat the big powerful Midianites! Now, Gideon knew that God’s way is perfect, so he jump, jumped, and went God’s way. Gideon got together the biggest army he could find. And they were ready to GO! But…God told Gideon he had too many men. He said to make the army smaller. So, Gideon said to the army, "If anyone is afraid, you can go back home!" And guess what? A LOT of men went home! And the army got SMALLER. How will they defeat the Midianites now? But Gideon knew that God’s way is perfect, so he jump, jumped, and went God’s way. The army was now ready to go again. But God said, "There are still too many men. Make the army even smaller. Take them to the water and tell them to get a drink." Then God said, "The ones who put their faces down to the water shou

Josiah

2 Chronicles 34 Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called Second Chronicles (2 Chronicles). The word "chronicle" means "written history." We begin with a king. Now, when I think about kings, I think of someone older and wiser, someone who can lead the people! But this king was a kid! Yep, that’s right. King Josiah was only a kid, just a few years older than you. Do any of you have older brothers and sisters already in elementary school? Can you imagine your elementary-aged brother as a KING? Think about what most kids are doing. Maybe they’re eating ice cream. Or building with blocks. Or kicking a soccer ball. But this kid was actually the KING! That meant he had a lot of people to lead. King Josiah wanted to do a good job. He wanted to show the people the right way to go.  One day, when he was a little older, King Josiah's workers brought him a very special book. Do you know what it said? It said that God’s way is perfect! It said that God loves us a

Naaman

2 Kings 5:1-14 Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called First Kings (1 Kings). It is the first of two books in the Bible that tell us about the kings of Israel. We begin with a man named Naaman. Naaman was a very important guy. He was in charge of a big army. He was used to doing things his own way. When he gave an order, his army followed him. He was used to being IN CHARGE! One day, Naaman got sick. He had lots of spots on his skin, and it hurt really bad. Yes, Naaman was so sick. And there was no medicine that could make the spots go away. He heard about a friend of God’s who might be able to help him. So, Naaman took his horse and chariot and went to Samaria, to find God’s friend, Elisha. When Naaman got to Elisha’s house, a messenger came out and told Naaman that if we wanted to get better, he needed to go wash himself SEVEN times in the river. Can you believe it? Naaman was angry because he thought that Elisha would make him better right away. Seven baths sounded too

Jonah

Jonah 1:1–3:10 Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called the Book of Jonah. Jonah loved God and wanted others to know God, too. One day, God told Jonah to go to Nineveh. If Nineveh was in front of him, what do you think Jonah did? Did he go God’s way?  Nope! Jonah turned around and went the opposite way. Jonah went Jonah’s way, toward a town called Tarshish. Say, "Oh, Jonah, not that way!" God told Jonah to go to Nineveh and tell the people there to go God’s way. But as you can see, Jonah didn’t want to go to Nineveh. Jonah thought he had a better idea! He wanted to sail on a boat, far, far, away from Nineveh. Can you tell Jonah what he should do? Should he go Jonah’s way or jump, jump, and go God’s way? Right! He should jump, jump, and go God’s way. Jonah didn’t go God’s way. Instead, he got into the boat to sail away, in the OPPOSITE direction of Nineveh. Jonah wanted to do things his way instead of God’s way. While Jonah was in the boat, a BIG storm came up. Wit

In the Garden

Genesis 1:31; 2:8–3:24 Our true story is found in a part of the Bible called Genesis. The word genesis means “the beginning.” We begin in the VERY beginning, when God created the most perfect garden. It had big trees . . . …beautiful flowers, and lots of plants. Some of these plants even had food on them!  And there were SO many animals! But God wasn’t done. As beautiful and perfect as the garden was, God knew it needed His most amazing creation. So God made people! First, God made Adam. Then, God made Eve. Now the garden was truly perfect. God gave Adam an important job to do! God told Adam to name ALL the animals and take care of them. Adam and Eve lived in God's wonderful garden, and they knew that God's way is perfect. They could eat fruit from ANY of the trees except for one. In fact, it was the only rule. God told them to never, ever eat that one fruit. But guess what? Even though they knew the rule, Eve still ate the fruit. "Eve, OH, NO!" But that's not all
