Josiah

2 Chronicles 34

Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called Second Chronicles (2 Chronicles). The word "chronicle" means "written history."

We begin with a king. Now, when I think about kings, I think of someone older and wiser, someone who can lead the people!

But this king was a kid! Yep, that’s right. King Josiah was only a kid, just a few years older than you. Do any of you have older brothers and sisters already in elementary school? Can you imagine your elementary-aged brother as a KING?

Think about what most kids are doing. Maybe they’re eating ice cream.

Or building with blocks.

Or kicking a soccer ball.

But this kid was actually the KING! That meant he had a lot of people to lead. King Josiah wanted to do a good job. He wanted to show the people the right way to go.

One day, when he was a little older, King Josiah's workers brought him a very special book. Do you know what it said? It said that God’s way is perfect! It said that God loves us and knows what’s best for us. So right then and there, King Josiah jump, jumped, and went God’s way!

Then, King Josiah called all the people and told them, “God’s way is perfect! God loves you, and God knows what’s best for you. So jump, jump, and go God’s way everyone!” Isn’t that amazing? Even though King Josiah was a kid, he told others about God’s way!

Do you think YOU, as a kid, could also tell others about God’s way? Of course you can!
There are so many ways to do it. You can tell a friend, ‘Hey! God’s way is perfect!’

Or you can show them, every day, by YOU going God’s way. They’ll see what it’s like when they watch you. No matter if you’re young or old, you go God’s way and tell others that God's way is perfect!

Bible Paraphrase: God’s way is perfect. —2 Samuel 22:31, NIrV

Text Truth: I can tell others about God’s way.

Family Devotional

The king stood by his pillar and renewed the covenant in the presence of the Lord—to follow the Lord and keep his commands, statutes and decrees with all his heart and all his soul, and to obey the words of the covenant written in this book.

Then he had everyone in Jerusalem and Benjamin pledge themselves to it; the people of Jerusalem did this in accordance with the covenant of God, the God of their ancestors.
—2 Chronicles 34:31-32

Our Bible story was about a young king named Josiah. King Josiah did a very brave thing. Even though he was a young king, he told everyone in his kingdom that they should go God’s way.

God's way is perfect. —2 Samuel 22:31, NIrV

King Josiah told the people that God’s way is perfect. So, with your family, make a list of people you can tell that God’s way is perfect.

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. In your own words, thank God for teaching you that His way is perfect. Ask God, "Please help us be brave like King Josiah and tell (read the list your family made) that Your way is perfect, because it’s true! God’s way is perfect!" Thank God for His love and let God know that you love him. Close your prayer by saying, "In Jesus' name, amen."
