John the Baptist Told about Jesus

Image
John 1:15-34 John the Baptist was born around the same time Jesus was. When he grew up, God gave him a very special job. God wanted John to tell other people about Jesus. John lived in the Judean desert near the Jordan River. He wore clothes made from camel hair and ate wild honey. John would often go to a place called Bethany beyond the Jordan River. People came to the river to hear John talk. The people liked to listen to John. The people got very quiet. They listened as John talked about how everyone should be sorry for doing wrong things. They listened carefully to what John told them about Jesus, God’s Son. John told them that Jesus, God’s Son, was more important than he was. John said that he had been sent to help people get ready for God’s Son. Many of the people who listened to John wanted to be baptized. Water is used in baptizing people. John would baptize them if they were sorry for doing wrong things. The people called him John the Baptist. John

Wise Men Visit Jesus

Matthew 2:1-23 The Bible tells us about some wise men. They knew a lot about stars. These wise men lived far away from Bethlehem, where Jesus had been born. One night, they saw a very bright star. They knew that the star meant there was a new king. The wise men packed their things and followed the star. They wanted to see this new king. The wise men followed the star to the city of Jerusalem. In Jerusalem, the wise men went to visit King Herod. They told him they were looking for the new king. Herod called for the Jewish teachers and asked them where the king was supposed to be born. They told Herod that Bethlehem would be the birth place of the king. King Herod was so angry! He wanted to be the only king. But he didn't let the wise men know he was angry. Instead, he sent them to Bethlehem. Before they left, Herod told the wise men, “After you find the king, come back and tell me where He is so I can worship Him.” But Herod didn’t want to worship the

Shepherds Visit Jesus

Luke 2:8-20 Being a Bible-time shepherd was hard work. The shepherd had to be sure the sheep had water to drink and grass to eat. He had to keep all the sheep together and not let any get lost. He even ate and slept while watching the sheep. One night, a group of tired shepherds lay down to sleep for the night when something amazing happened—and angel appeared! A bright light shone around the angel. The shepherds were not tired anymore. They were scared! The angel said, “Do not be afraid. I have good news! This news will make people all over the world happy. Today, in the town of Bethlehem, a Savior has been born to you. He is Jesus, the Savior God promised long ago. You will find him in Bethlehem. Look for a baby wrapped in strips of cloth and lying in a manger.” The shepherds knew that a manger was a place that holds food for animals. Then the sky was filled with many angels! They said “Glory to God!” Then the angels went away. The shepherds were so excited! Th

Jesus is Born!

Luke 2:1-7 Clip-clop, clip-clop. Mary had Joseph were on a long trip. Mary and Joseph had to travel from Nazareth to their home town of Bethlehem to put their names on a special list. Everyone else was going to their home towns, too. That was the law made by Roman Emperor Caesar August. Finally, Mary and Joseph got to Bethlehem. They were tired. It had been a long trip. Joseph knew that he must find a resting place very soon. It was almost time for Mary to have the baby the angel had told her about. The baby would be God’s Son! Bethlehem was very crowded. Many other people besides Mary and Joseph had come to Bethlehem. There was no place for Mary and Joseph to rest. At last Joseph found a place where they would be able to stay warm and dry. It was a stable, a place where animals were kept. Mary and Joseph lay down to rest. That night, Mary’s baby was born! It was a baby boy, just as the angel had told them. They named the baby Jesus. Mary wrapped Him in soft clo

An Angel Brings Good News

Luke 1:26-38 The Bible tells us that long ago there lived a young woman named Mary. She lived in a small town called Nazareth. Mary loved God. She was excited because soon she would be getting married to a man named Joseph. Joseph came from the family line of King David. Joseph loved God. One day, God sent an angel named Gabriel to visit Mary. The angel had a special message from God. “Hello,” the angel said. “You are special to God! He is with you.” Mary was afraid and upset. She didn’t understand what the angel was saying to her. So, the angel spoke to her gently. “Don’t be afraid, Mary. God has sent me to give you a special message.” “God has a special job for you. You are going to have a baby. He will be called the Son of the Most High God. You will name Him Jesus. God will make Him a King. His kingdom will never end.” Mary asked, “How will this happen?” “Nothing is impossible with God,” the angel said. “God will be with you. The child will be God’s own S
