John Said: Follow Jesus

Image
Matthew 3:3-4, 11, 13-17 Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called Matthew. Matthew was one of the special helpers of Jesus. Our story begins with a man named John the Baptist. John lived by himself in the desert. He made his clothes out of camel hair, and John loved to eat honey and bugs called locusts. The best part about John the Baptist was that he loved God. John would always tell people, "Get ready, everyone! God has said that a very special leader is coming! He is someone we should all follow!" One day, John was in the water baptizing people because they wanted to show they loved God. All of a sudden, can you guess who John saw? Yes! John the Baptist saw Jesus! He was so excited to see Jesus because he knew that Jesus was the special leader God had promised. Then Jesus moved into the water where John was. Jesus got in the water to be baptized to show that He loved God. But John said, "No, I should be baptized by You! But becaus

Jesus Says: Love Others

John 15:12 Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called John. John was one of the friends and helpers of Jesus. Jesus taught us how to be a good friend. One night, Jesus was having dinner with his friends, the disciples. He said the greatest thing you can do is to: "Love each other as I have loved you" (John 15:12 NIV). He wants us to love others like He loves us! And that is a LOT of love because Jesus loves everyone! Do you remember the story about the woman Jesus met when he was thirsty? She didn’t think Jesus would take a drink of water from her because she was from a different town. But did Jesus love her? Yes! Jesus loves everyone—even people from different towns. That means we should love everyone even if they are different—no matter where they live or what food they like to eat or what toys they like to play with. The number one thing we can do is to love everyone, even people who are different, like Jesus! Remember when Jesus met Zacchaeu

Jesus Loves the Unloved Woman

John 8:2-11 Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called John. John was one of the friends and helpers of Jesus. Our true story begins with a woman. This woman was very sad. She was sad because she didn’t have any friends. She’d made a lot of bad choices and now no one wanted to be her friend. What if you had no friends to play with at the park? What if you had no friends to sit with you while you have a snack? What if you had no one to play cars with? Not having any friends would be so sad. One day, Jesus was teaching a bunch of people. Suddenly, some men who didn’t like the woman brought her to Jesus and said, "Jesus, this woman has done bad things! She deserves to be punished!" Do you think Jesus loved her and wanted to be her friend? Yes! Jesus did love her and wanted to be her friend. Instead of punishing her, Jesus asked the men, "Have you ever done bad things? Have you ever made bad choices? Step forward if you’re perfect and have

Jesus Loves Zacchaeus

Luke 19:1-10 Our true story comes from the Bible. It is in the part, or book, of the Bible called Luke. Luke loved Jesus and wanted others to know and love Jesus, too. Our story is about someone who didn’t know if Jesus loved him. His name was Zacchaeus. Zacchaeus was a tax collector. That meant his job was to collect money from everyone in town. Zacchaeus would take more money from people than he was supposed to. And he kept the extra money for himself! It was wrong. And it made everyone mad at Zacchaeus. One day, something wonderful happened. Jesus came to town! Everyone was so excited to see Him. Zacchaeus was excited, too. But he was too short to see over the crowd of people. Maybe Zacchaeus could jump up to see Jesus over the crowd. The problem with jumping is that you always come back down! So that wasn’t going to work. If only there was something Zacchaeus could climb to see over all the people. What could he do? Zacchaeus could climb a tree! Now Z

Jesus Loves the Woman at the Well

John 4:1-30 Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called John. John was one of the friends and helpers of Jesus. Our story starts with a well. A long time ago, people would go to a well to get water. They didn’t have sinks or refrigerators or water bottles. If someone was thirsty, they had to walk ALL the way from their house to the well just to get a drink! Jesus was thirsty. He'd been walking and walking and walking a long, long way and needed a drink of water. But when Jesus got the well, He didn’t have a jar to put any water in. How is He going to get a drink? Then He looked up and saw a woman with a jar. The woman looked at Jesus and she knew they were from different towns. Jesus asked the woman, "Will you give me a drink?" The woman knew people from her town weren’t friends with the people from His town. So she said, "Why are you asking me for a drink?" Do you think where she was from mattered to Jesus? No, of course not!
