David's Prayer

Image
Psalm 27 All his life, David learned about God and His goodness. David loved God and obeyed Him. David wrote songs and prayers to God. When David thought about the times he had been sad, lonely, hurt, or scared, he remembered how God had helped him. David knew God had kept him safe many times. King David Playing the Harp by Gerard van Honthorst (1590 - 1656). David's prayers often told about God's love and care and David's trust God. This is one of David's prayers: God gives me light. God saves me. God makes me brave. Why should I be afraid? When people tried to hurt me, God stopped them. If more people try to hurt me, I won’t be afraid. I want to be with God always. When bad things happen, God will protect me. When people try to hurt me, I will be happy and sing songs to God. God, hear me when I call and help me. God, You told me to do what You want me to do, and I will. Don’t hide from me, God. Y

Help for Elijah

1 Kings 17:7-16 Elijah lived in a town called Tishbe in Gilead. Elijah loved God. He talked to God, and he listened to God. Elijah knew God would take care of him.  Elijah traveled to tell people about a famine that would happen soon. Elijah walked and walked, and he became thirsty. God showed Elijah a stream. The stream was called Cherith and was east of the river Jordan.  Elijah got water from the stream. And God sent birds to find food for Elijah. Rain did not fall for a long time. Day after day the hot sun shone on the ground. The stream went dry. Elijah had no more water to drink. Then God told Elijah to go to Sidon, to a town called Zarephath, God said a woman in that town would give Elijah food and water. When Elijah got to Zarephath, he saw the woman gathering sticks. Elijah asked the woman to give him some water. “Please bring me a piece of bread, too," Elijah said. “I don't have any bread,” the woman said. '

David Was Kind to Saul

1 Samuel 24:1-22 King Saul was angry with David. He continued to try to hurt David. Saul heard that David was in En-Gedi. So Saul and his men traveled from Saul’s palace in Gibeah to En-Gedi. Saul found a cave near some sheep pens, and he went inside. Saul did not know David and his men were staying in the back of the cave. David’s men told David about Saul. Quietly David walked to where Saul was and cut off a little piece of Saul’s robe without Saul even noticing. Later David thought about what he did, and he was sorry. David told his men, “I will never hurt Saul because God chose him to be king.” When Saul left the cave, David walked out. He called to Saul, then bowed down. David asked the king why he thought unkindly of him. “I will never hurt you,” David said. Then David explained to Saul that he could have hurt him when he sneaked to cut a piece of his robe; but David chose to love Saul because David knew God chose Saul to be the king. W
