Gideon Trusted God

Image
Judges 7:1-8 Our true story comes from a part, or book, of the Bible called Judges. A judge is someone who tells people what the law says. Our story is about a really mean army called the Midianites. The Midianites were big. They were tough! And the guy God chose to lead the battle AGAINST the mean Midianites was a man named Gideon. God told Gideon to gather an army to go and beat the mean Midianites. Gideon had 32,000 soldiers. That is a LOT of soldiers. With all those men, Gideon was sure to win the battle for God. So Gideon and his army got ready for battle. But God told Gideon he had too many soldiers. He told Gideon to ask his army if anyone was scared. Gideon was confused by this. Why wouldn’t God want a BIG army to defeat the mean Midianites? But Gideon trusted that God’s way was perfect and so Gideon said to the soldiers, "Raise your hand if you’re scared!" And lots of people raised their hands. So Gideon said, "You men can go home."

King Josiah Finds a Bible

2 Chronicles 34 Our true story comes from the part, or book, of the Bible called Second Chronicles (2 Chronicles). It is the second of two books in the Bible called Chronicles. The word "chronicle" means "written history." How old must a king be? Would you believe eight? Josiah was eight years old when God made him king of Judah. Josiah was a pretty awesome king. He believed God’s way was perfect, and he wanted to follow God’s way. When Josiah had been king for eight years, he sent people to rebuild the big temple, the place where people went to worship God. The temple was in Jerusalem and it had fallen down. King Josiah knew that rebuilding the temple was important to God, so he made sure it got done! One day, the workers found something in the temple. It was a rolled up paper with writing on it—a scroll. A scroll is a kind of book. The workers brought the scroll to King Josiah. He read the scroll. It was God’s words—the Bi

Naaman Learned the Best Way

2 Kings 5:1-14 Our story comes from the Bible. It is found in the book, or part, of the Bible called “Second Kings” (2 Kings). It is the second book in the Bible that tells about the kings of Israel and Judah. Naaman was the commander of a huge army for the king of Aram. Everyone did whatever he said. There was only one problem. Naaman had leprosy. It meant that he had boo-boos all over his body. And they hurt a lot. He could have gone to the doctor but there was no medicine that could help. Naaman heard about a prophet named Elisha who loved God and might be able to help him. So Naaman went to Samaria to find Elisha. When Naaman arrived at Elisha’s house, Elisha didn’t come to greet him. Instead, he sent a messenger out to talk to Naaman. Do you know what the messenger said? The messenger said, “God can make you all better! All you have to do is go down to the Jordan River and take SEVEN baths!” “That is NOT a good idea,” Naaman thought. That would mean going
