Palm Sunday

Image
Matthew 21:1-16 Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called the Gospel of Matthew. Matthew was a disciple of Jesus. That means Jesus was his teacher. And the word gospel means “good news!” Our story is about Palm Sunday. It all started outside the town of Jerusalem when people found out that Jesus was on His way to their town! The people were so excited! They had heard that Jesus could do amazing things, and they wanted to see Him.  The people wanted to show that Jesus was special, so they took off their coats and laid them down on the ground, in front of Jesus on the path. And they got branches off the palm trees and waved them in the air. When Jesus came through town, the people waved their palm branches and shouted, “Hosanna, Hosanna!” Palm Sunday is a special day where we celebrate Jesus. But you don’t have to have a palm branch, and you don’t have to lay your coats on the ground to celebrate Jesus. We can sing to Jesus. We can dance! We can pray! We can yell, “Yay, Jesus!

John 13:34-35 Our true story is found in at part of the Bible called the Gospel of John. John was one of the friends and helpers of Jesus. And the word "Gospel" means "good news!" We are talking about the number one, the most important thing you could EVER do. The number one, most important thing is . . . to love like Jesus. Loving others like Jesus is the best thing we can do. How do we love like Jesus? Here are some stories about Jesus that will show us how. One time, there was a man who couldn’t walk. He needed help... ...and Jesus helped him! Helping our friends is ONE way we can love like Jesus. When a friend is sad, we can help cheer them up. If they need help learning to play a game, we can help teach them. We show others we love them when we help them! Another time, Jesus was teaching a lot of people, and they all got hungry. But they only had two fish and five loaves of bread.  Jesus prayed and thanked God for the food, then He shared it with over 5,000 peo

John 13:3-17 Our true story is found in at part of the Bible called the Gospel of John. John was one of the friends and helpers of Jesus. And the word "Gospel" means "good news!"  We begin with Jesus. It was the night He had all His friends, the disciples, with Him at dinner. His friend John was there, and Matthew, and Peter. They were all at the table. Then Jesus took a towel and He knelt down. Do you know what Jesus was about to do? He was about to wash His friends’ feet! His friends had walked around dusty roads all day in sandals, and their feet were DIRTY! Talk about a stinky job! Jesus got a bowl and then filled the bowl with water. Then Jesus washed His friend’s feet. Can you believe it? Jesus is SO important. He is God’s Son. Why would someone so important wash His friend’s feet? Because Jesus wanted to show His friends that He loved them. And you’re never too important to love others by doing something for them like washing their feet. Jesus is a good frie

Light of the World

Matthew 5:14-16 Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called the Gospel of Matthew. Matthew was a disciple of Jesus. That means Jesus was his teacher. And the word gospel means “good news!” We begin with Jesus talking to a big group of people. Jesus told the crowd that He wanted them to go out and love people so that they would know God and praise Him. And Jesus really wanted them to understand, so He gave them a picture of a light. Do you know what a flashlight is? And what a flashlight does? It shines! light. Jesus said that when we love others, it’s like shining a light that shows everyone, “Look, God loves you! He really loves you!” We can love others by helping them, by sharing, and by saying kind words. When we don’t love others, it’s like we’re covering up our light. Jesus said, “Let your light shine!” And we don’t have to wait to let our light shine. We can love like Jesus! We can start, right now! That’s right. Start your engines, friends! We can go, go, go and be a li
