House on a Rock

Matthew 7:24-27 Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called the Gospel of Matthew. Matthew was a disciple of Jesus. That means Jesus was his teacher. And the word gospel means “good news!” Jesus sometimes taught people using special teaching stories called parables. Jesus often told stories to teach us important things! This story Jesus told was about two men who each decided to build a house. One wanted to build on the sand. And one wanted to build on rock. If you had to choose where you wanted to build your house, would you build it on the sand or on the rock? Well, the two men went forward with their plans, and they each built a house. Both houses looked great and everything was fine until . . . until it started raining! And it rained harder and harder. Oh no! It rained so hard. Do you know what happened to the house on the sand?  It fell right down! The water washed the sand away and the house fell down. But guess what happened to the house built on the rock? Nothing! It s

Luke 10:25-37   Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called the Gospel of Luke. Luke loved Jesus and wanted others to know and love Jesus, too. And the word gospel means “good news!” Jesus sometimes taught people using special teaching stories called parables. Jesus told a story about a man walking along the road.  All of the sudden, some robbers came and hurt the man. He had so many boo-boos. He needed help. Then, someone came walking along. Oh, no! He didn’t stop to help. He just walked right by. Then, another man came walking by. But he didn’t stop either. He just walked on by.  Then a third man came by. This man was a Samaritan. No one would expect him to help, because Samaritan people and the hurt man’s people were not friends. The Samaritan man helped the hurt man! He even put him on his donkey . . . . . . and took him to a place to stay until he was all better.    We can help our teachers, parents, friends—everyone! The very important thing Jesus taught us in this story

Acts 2:45; Luke 12:16-21 Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called Acts, which is short for “The Acts of the Apostles.” An apostle is someone who is sent to teach people about Jesus. Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called the Gospel of Luke. Luke loved Jesus and wanted others to know and love Jesus, too. And the word gospel means “good news!” Jesus sometimes taught people using special teaching stories called parables.  Jesus told one story about a farmer. The farmer grew a lot of food for his family. Like a lot a lot. Then, he had to put the food in his barn, and his barn filled up very fast! That barn was full. Uh-oh. The barn was full, but there was still food left to store. What should the farmer do with all the extra food?  Hmmm. Then the farmer had an idea! He would build a BIGGER barn. Then he could fill it up and keep ALL the food for himself. It would be WAY more food than he needed, but he wanted to keep it all.  Hmm, tell me, is there anything ELSE t

Luke 15:3-7 Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called the Gospel of Luke. Luke loved Jesus and wanted others to know and love Jesus, too. And the word gospel means “good news!” Jesus sometimes taught people using special teaching stories called parables.  Here is one of the stories Jesus told to teach us something very important. And this story starts with a shepherd. Do you know what a shepherd does? Do you think a shepherd is responsible for taking care of dogs?  No? Okay, what about birds? Does a shepherd take care of birds?  Nope. A shepherd takes care of...sheep! So, Jesus said to pretend you're a shepherd and you have 100 sheep, but instead of 100 sheep, you only counted 99? Like this: Ninety-five, ninety-six, ninety-seven, ninety-eight, ninety-nine . . . oh, no! There are only 99 sheep!  Where’s number 100? Where’s the last sheep? Oh no, it’s lost! What should the shepherd do? Should he stay with the 99 sheep he has or find the missing one? Well, Jesus said the sh

Luke 15:11-24 Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called the Gospel of Luke. Luke loved Jesus and wanted others to know and love Jesus, too. And the word gospel means “good news!” Jesus sometimes taught people using special teaching stories called parables.  Jesus told one parable about a father and his son. The father had saved a LOT of money. Now, he saved this money to give to his son when he was MUCH older.  But one day, the son asked his dad to give him all the money, RIGHT NOW. What do you think the dad did? Do you think he gave him the money? Yes, the dad gave it to him. The son took the money. And the son left, to go far away from home. The son took his dad’s money and spent it on everything. He bought fancy clothes. He ate fancy food.  He spent and spent and spent. He spent his father’s money until it was all GONE. There was no more money. The son didn’t know what to do.  He didn’t have a bed to sleep in or any food to eat. He was so hungry that he even thought about
