Ruth and Naomi Were Thankful

Ruth 1-2

Our true story comes from the Bible. It is found in the book, or part, of the Bible called Ruth. This book is named after one of the people in our story.

Our story starts with a woman named Naomi. She was very sad because her husband and her sons had died. She had no family. She was all alone, so she decided to go back to the town where she grew up.

There is another woman in our story. Her name is Ruth. Ruth had married Naomi’s son. Ruth said, “I’ll go with you, Naomi. I’ll be your family.”

So, Naomi and Ruth walked from Moab to the town where Naomi used to live. The town is called Bethlehem.

Then Naomi and Ruth started to feel hungry. Ruth and Naomi didn’t have any money to buy food. So, Ruth went to see if she could find something to eat.

Not far from where they lived, a man named Boaz had people working in his fields to gather grain.

The fields were big, and the workers were fast. But as they went, sometimes the workers would leave grain on the ground behind them. Ruth saw this and wondered if she could pick up the leftovers on the ground and bring them home to Naomi so they would have food.

Boaz saw Ruth and found out that she was family.

Boaz told the workers to let Ruth pick all the good food she needed. God sent family to help Ruth and Naomi.

When Ruth went home, Naomi was SO surprised. She asked Ruth who had helped her. Ruth answered, “A man named Boaz.” What do you think Naomi said? She said, “Thank You, God!”

Ruth and Naomi said thank you for the family who helped them. That’s what families do. Families take care of each other. Thank You, God, for giving us our family.

Bible Paraphrase: I will give thanks to the LORD with my whole heart. – Psalm 111:1, ESV

Text Truth: I can thank God for my family.

Family Devotional

Now Naomi had a relative on her husband’s side, a man of standing from the clan of Elimelek, whose name was Boaz.

And Ruth the Moabite said to Naomi, “Let me go to the fields and pick up the leftover grain behind anyone in whose eyes I find favor.”

Naomi said to her, “Go ahead, my daughter.” So she went out, entered a field and began to glean behind the harvesters. As it turned out, she was working in a field belonging to Boaz, who was from the clan of Elimelek– Ruth 2:1-3

Our Bible story was about a family that helped one another. Ruth helped Naomi, working in the fields every day to get enough food to take to Naomi so they would have something to eat.

And Boaz helped Ruth and Naomi. He told his workers to leave enough food so Ruth could fill her basket. Ruth, Naomi, and Boaz were thankful for their family. We can thank God for our family, too. We can thank God for everything!

I will give thanks to the LORD with my whole heart Psalm 111:1, ESV

With your family, make a list of the people in your family. Then, have each family member write down how the other family members help them. And don't forget you! Write down how the other members of your family help you.

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. Thank God for your family. Acknowledge that your family helps you in so many ways! [Family member's name] "wants to thank You for [read how other family members help them]." (Repeat for each family member.) Thank God for His love. Acknowledge to God your love for Him.
