God Helped Daniel Be Brave

Daniel 6:1-23

Our true story is found in a part of the Bible called Daniel. Daniel was a man that loved God very much and lived in a land called Babylon.

Daniel loved God and prayed to Him every day.

Daniel worked for the king. King Darius liked Daniel, and they were friends. This made some other guys very jealous and grumpy.

These grumpy guys wanted to get Daniel in trouble, and they knew that He prayed to God every day. So, they tricked the king into making a new rule.

“Hear ye! Hear ye! There is a new rule. No one can pray to anyone except for King Darius, because King Darius is awesome. If you break this rule, you will be thrown into a den of hungry lions!”

When Daniel heard about the king’s new rule, do you think he stopped praying to God? No way! Daniel knew that God was with him, and that made him brave. So, he kept praying to God every day.

As soon as the mean grumpy guys saw Daniel praying, they ran off to tell the king. “King Darius!” they said. “Daniel was caught praying to his God and not to you! Throw him to the lions!”

“Oh, no!” the king thought. Daniel was his friend.

The king was sad and didn’t want to do it. But the law was the law. So, Daniel was thrown into the lions’ den. But Daniel was brave. He was brave because he knew that God was with him.

King Darius said to Daniel, “I hope the God you pray to every day saves you from the lions.” All night long, the king worried about Daniel. When it was finally morning, the king ran to the lions’ den.

King Darius called out, “Daniel! Did the God you pray to every day save you from the lions?”

Daniel answered back! He was safe and sound. God had sent an angel to shut the mouths of the lions, and Daniel was safe!

The king was so happy that he wrote a new rule that said that Daniel’s God was the one true God, and everyone could pray to Him.

Daniel was brave because God was with him. And God can help you be brave, too! No matter what, you can be brave when you remember that God is with you.

Bible Paraphrase: Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid . . . for the LORD your God goes with you. – Deuteronomy 31:6, NIV

Text Truth: God is with me so I can be brave.

Family Devotional

Daniel answered, “May the king live forever! My God sent his angel, and he shut the mouths of the lions. They have not hurt me, because I was found innocent in his sight. Nor have I ever done any wrong before you, Your Majesty.” – Daniel 6:21-22

Our Bible story had some lions in it. The king passed a law that said if you prayed to anyone but the king, you would be thrown into a pit with lions in it! That’s scary! But Daniel was brave. He knew that God was always with him, so he prayed to God like he had always done.

But God helped Daniel be brave. And God can help you be brave. Knowing that God is always with us can help us be brave.

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid . . . for the LORD your God goes with you– Deuteronomy 31:6, NIV

With your family, make a list of things that you are afraid of, like lions or the dark or strangers or the dentist. It can be anything!

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. Thank God for Daniel’s story. Acknowledge that Daniel was brave because he knew God was with him. Ask God to help you remember God is always with you so you can be brave, too! Ask God to help you remember He is with you when (read through your list). Acknowledge to God your love for Him.
