God Made Our Bodies
Genesis 1:27; 2:7; 3:20; 4:1-2; Psalm 139:1-6, 13-18
The Bible tells us what God made. God made a man named Adam.
God also made a woman named Eve.
And God made two boys named Cain and Abel.
It is God who made Adam’s, Eve’s, Cain’s, and Abel’s bodies. God made for each of them a head…and arms…and hands…and legs…and feet!
And God made you and me. God knew all about you before you were born. He saw your body even before you were made. God even knows how tall you will be when you are grown-up. Just like Cain and Abel, God made our bodies. He made for each of us a head…and arms…and hands…and legs…and feet!
God made our bodies to do many things. He made our arms to throw a ball. God made our legs to stand and sit. He made our hands and fingers. They can wash, pick up things, even pet animals. God made our feet and toes to help us run, walk, and hop. God made our faces so we could eat, breathe, and see.
God made our bodies to grow and change. As you grow, you can do different things with your body. When you get bigger, you’ll be able to do even more things!
We have wonderful bodies because God made our bodies. Let’s shout it out. “God made our bodies!”
Bible Paraphrase: The LORD is God. It is he who made us. (Know that the LORD is God. It is He who made us, and we are His; we are His people, the sheep of His pasture. Psalm 100:3 NIV)
Text Truth: God made our bodies to serve Him.
Sing this song to the tune of “Mulberry Bush.” With your child, create other verses for different body parts.
I thank God for my strong legs
(strong hands, fast feet),
My strong legs, my strong legs
(strong hands, fast feed).
I thank God for my strong legs
(strong hands, fast feet),
See how high I jump
(fast I clap, fast I run).
As you sing, touch or point to the body parts mentioned. Keep repeating the verse and sing faster each time. How fast can you sing the song and do the motions?
Head, shoulders, knees and toes
Knees and toes
Head, shoulders, knees and toes
Knees and toes
Eyes and ears and mouth and nose
Head, shoulders, knees and toes
Knees and toes
As you sing, male up your own verses. What about "You put your hips in"? Or knees? Or maybe toes? Good luck!
You put your right foot in
You put your right foot out
You put your right foot in
And you shake it all about
You do the Hokey Pokey and you turn yourself around
That`s what it`s all about!
You put your left foot in
You put your left foot out
You put your left foot in
And you shake it all about
You do the Hokey Pokey and you turn yourself around
That`s what it`s all about!
You put your right hand in
You put your right hand out
You put your right hand in
And you shake it all about
You do the Hokey Pokey and you turn yourself around
That`s what it`s all about!
You put your left hand in
You put your left hand out
You put your left hand in
And you shake it all about
You do the Hokey Pokey and you turn yourself around
That`s what it`s all about!
You put your head in
You put your head out
You put your head in
And you shake it all about
You do the Hokey Pokey and you turn yourself around
That`s what it`s all about!
You put your whole self in
You put your whole self out
You put your whole self in
And you shake it all about
You do the Hokey Pokey and you turn yourself around
That`s what it`s all about!

Play a silly game that will help your child learn different body parts. Ask your child to point to two different body parts and then touch them together. For example, you might say, “Point to your nose. Point to your knee. Touch your nose to your knee.” Encourage your child to come up with silly connections as well. Say the memory verse together.
As your child takes a bath before bed, help him soap each body part that you name. For example: Soap on your legs. Show me how you put some soap on your legs.
Sing songs that talk about the different body parts God made that will help your child learn their names. As you sing about the different body parts God made, talk about what each part can do to serve Him.

Family Devotional
Reflect on 1 Corinthians 6:19. Your body is more than a mass of muscles, nerves, and other cells. Even if you feel it has imperfections, your body is a sacred place, a dwelling place for God.
The God who created you dwells within you. With your body you can serve God, honor Him, and worship Him. Read Romans 12:1.
Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship.
Praise the Lord with your mouth, prepare a meal for a family with your hands, listen to a friend with your ears. Your family will learn from you how they can serve God with their bodies. Praise Him for yours.
