Tell Everyone Jesus Is Alive

Matthew 26:20-30; 27:1-2; 28:1-7

Our story comes from a book of the Bible called Matthew. Matthew was one of the helpers of Jesus.

Jesus was God's Son. Jesus came to earth because He loves us so much.

When Jesus came, He knew something sad would have to happen so that we all could be glad.

One night, Jesus tried to tell His friends about something that was going to happen. He sat them all down and had dinner with them. He told them that He was going away. But then Jesus promised to come back!

That night, some mean people came and took Jesus away.

They hurt Jesus. They put Him on a cross and He died.

It was so, so sad. They put Jesus’ body in a tomb with a big stone in front of it.

Three days went by. Then some of Jesus' friends went to the tomb.

They saw that the big stone had been rolled away.

They started crying. They thought someone had taken Jesus, but then all of a sudden, there was Jesus! He was alive!

Jesus had done something no one else in the whole world could do. Jesus came back just like He said He would. This was big news! So, Jesus’ friends ran and told everyone. “He’s alive! He’s alive! Jesus is alive! Jesus is alive!”

Something so very sad turned into something glad for all of us.

And what should we do with all this news? We should tell everyone. Everyone in every part of the world needs to hear this big news! Jesus is alive!

Bible Paraphrase: “Go and make disciples of all nations.” (Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” Matthew 28:19 NIV)

Text Truth: I can tell others Jesus is alive!

 Family Devotional

After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.

There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.

The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.” — Matthew 28:1-7

Jesus is alive! And because of that we have new life in Him. We have the gift of eternal life because of Jesus’ death.

Praise God that you are no longer dead in your sins but alive with new life because of Jesus. What a glorious hope we have of eternal life with Him!

Activities You Can Do at Home

Share Secrets at Bedtime

As you help your child get ready for bed, tell your child that Jesus came alive again because He loves us. Take turns whispering the special secret very quietly in each other’s ears: Jesus died and is alive again!

Edible Angels

You’ll Need: angel-shaped cookie cutters, a batch of pre-made or store-bought sugar cookie dough, icing and sprinkles, cookie pan, oven, oven mittens, other kitchen items as needed

Let your child help cut out angel-shaped cookies and decorate them. As you work together, talk about the wonderful message that the two angels gave the women at the tomb. When the cookies are finished, let your child hold two angels as you repeat their message. Then enjoy some cookies and give some while telling people the angels’ message.

Treats and Good News

Make a basket full of fun treats to give to someone and tell them that Jesus is alive. You may wish to use the angel cookies and deliver the gift to someone you wrote down in Let’s Pray.

Bible Story, Sad and Happy

You’ll Need: paper plates, crayons or washable markers

On a paper plate, make a happy face on one side and a sad face on the other side. As you read the Bible story, let your child show the sad face if that part of the story is sad or the happy face if that part of the story is happy. Finish the Bible story by saying, “Jesus died and is alive again!”

Pray and Tell

You’ll Need: construction paper, safety scissors, glue or glue stick, crayons or washable markers

Cut out a large flower. Write a name on each petal of someone to tell that Jesus is alive! Pray for each of the people listed on your flower.
