The Bible Tells Us to Love

John 13:34-35

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”  John 13:34-35 NIV

Helping others is a great way to show love for others.

The Bible is God's word to us. And the Bible tells us that God wants us to love people. We can trust what the Bible says when it tells us what to do and shows us the way to go.

The Bible tells us to love one another. Does that mean God wants us to love...people who are older than us? Yes, it does!

What about our teachers? Yes, God wants us to love our teachers.

And what about police officers? Yes, God wants us to love polices officers.

But what about kids who are mean to us? Yes, even the mean kids.

What about our little brothers when they break our favorite toy? Yes, even our little brothers when they break our favorite toy.

God wants us to love others the same way He loves us, and God loves us a log. That means we should take care of one another and help each other out. It means sharing with each other and thinking of ways we can be a good friend.

What are more ways we can love people? We can share our toys when a friend comes to play. We can ask our dad if we can help him rake the leaves. If someone is sick, we can draw a picture to make them feel better. If it’s someone’s birthday, we can give them a gift. If someone is sad, we can sing them a song.

There are lots of ways to love people. The Bible tells us to love one another.

Bible Paraphrase: “Show me the right path, O LORD; point out the road for me to follow." (Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths.” Psalm 25:4 NIV)

Text Truth: The Bible tells me to look for ways to help others.

Activities You Can Do at Home

Say the Bible Memory Verse

Say the memory verse and do the following motions in front of your child.

Show me the right path (hands up like goggles),
O LORD (point up);
point out the road (point out and down)
for me to follow (march).
Psalm 25:4 (Hold out hands like a book.)

Say the verse again with the motions and invite your child to do it with you. Repeat several times.

Pass the Heart

You'll Need: heart-shaped pillow

Gather your family in a circle in an open room. Pass the heart-shaped pillow around the circle. As each family member receives the pillow have them say the memory verse.

“Show me the right path, O LORD; point out the road for me to follow, Psalm 25:4.”

You may pass the billow around the circle one or more times. When you are done, say to the circle: “God loves us so much. The Bible tells us that when we love others, we’re showing everyone that we follow God too! Loving others is definitely taking the right path. I’m so glad we have the Bible so we can know which way to go. What tells you which way to go? The Bible tells me which way to go.”
