God Had a Plan for Moses

Exodus 1:21–2:10; 12:31-42

Our true Bible story comes from a book, or part, of the Bible called Exodus. The word “exodus” means to leave or go away from.

Our story is about a mommy and her little baby. The baby's name was Moses.

Moses’s mommy loved him very much. But there was a problem: Moses and his family lived in a place called Egypt. The king of Egypt was called Pharaoh, and he was a mean, mean man who didn’t like the baby boys in Moses’s family.

One day, Pharaoh said all of the baby boys had to be taken away! This was bad! What would Moses’s mommy do?

Moses’s mommy wanted to protect her baby, so this is what she did. She made a very special basket for him. She made sure no water could get in it.

Then she took baby Moses and put him in the basket.

After Moses’s mommy put him in the basket, she carried him and placed him safely in the tall grass beside the water of the Nile River.

It had to be so hard for Moses’s mommy to say goodbye to him, but she knew that God would be with him and that God’s got it.

She told Moses’s big sister to stay near the basket and watch to see what would happen to him.

Moses’s big sister did what her mommy said and she watched baby Moses. She watched and watched. And then the princess of Egypt found the basket. The princess! And she helped baby Moses!

The princess rescued baby Moses, but she knew she needed help taking care of a little baby. Who could help her take care of baby Moses? Once again, God’s got it.

Moses’s sister walked up to the princess and told her she knew someone who could take care of the baby. Can you guess who? Moses’s mommy!

So, the princess asked Moses’s mommy to take care of him, and the princess wouldn’t let anyone hurt him. Baby Moses was safe.

God’s plan was to keep Moses safe and help him grow up to be the leader of God’s people. God had a plan all along!

God has a plan for you and me, too. We can trust God’s plan, because God’s plan is perfect. No matter where we are or what’s happening, we can know that God’s got it!

Bible Paraphrase: God is with you wherever you go. – Joshua 1:9, NLT

Text Truth: God’s plan is perfect.

Family Devotional

Now a man of the tribe of Levi married a Levite woman, and she became pregnant and gave birth to a son. When she saw that he was a fine child, she hid him for three months. But when she could hide him no longer, she got a papyrus basket for him and coated it with tar and pitch. Then she placed the child in it and put it among the reeds along the bank of the Nile. His sister stood at a distance to see what would happen to him. — Exodus 2:1-4

Moses’s mommy made him a special basket. She put Moses in the basket and then put the basket in the tall grass by a river. She did this to keep Moses safe from the mean Pharaoh. Later, someone found baby Moses—the Pharaoh’s daughter. She took care of him and kept him safe.

Moses grew up to be a great leader for God’s people. It was hard at times, but God’s plan was perfect all along. That’s why we say, "Gods got it." And just like God was with baby Moses, He is with us, too.

God is with you wherever you go. — Joshua 1:9

Ask the members of your family to pray with you with their eyes open, and to say their own name when you point to them. Pray with your family. Thank God for each member of your family. Give each family member the opportunity to pray if they want. Acknowledge to God that you understand His plan is perfect. Also acknowledge that sometimes it is hard to trust in His plan. Then say, "I ask that you will help (point to a family member, they say their name) trust in Your plan." Repeat this process until you have pointed to each family member who is gathered. After you have pointed to every family member, ask God to help you be patient, to help you to do what God says and to trust that God's plan is perfect.
