Jesus Forgave the Woman

Luke 7:36-50

Our true story comes from the Bible. It is in the part, or book, of the Bible called Luke. Luke loved Jesus and wanted others to know and love Jesus, too.

How much does Jesus love us? You could run all the way around the world and Jesus’ love for you would go farther than that. That is a long way!

You could swim down, down, down to the bottom of the deepest ocean with all the fish, and Jesus’ love for you would be deeper than that! That is deep!

You could climb to the highest mountain all the way to the very tippy top, and Jesus’ love would still be higher than that. That is high! Jesus’ love for us is long and deep and high and wide. It goes on forever and ever and ever.

But what about if you took a cookie off the plate after someone told you not to? Would Jesus still love you? YES! Do you think there is anything you could do to make Jesus stop loving you? Nope. Jesus will always, always, ALWAYS love you.

That is why the woman in our Bible story was so thankful. She didn’t have many friends because she had made a lot of bad choices. But she knew Jesus loved her and was her friend, no matter what. And she was SO thankful!

One night, Jesus went to a friend’s house for dinner. The woman came to the dinner too, even though she wasn’t invited. She wanted to see Jesus because she loved Him and was SO thankful that He loved her too. When she walked in she was holding a bottle of perfume.

The bottle of perfume cost a lot of money and it smelled so good. It was very special to her. When she saw Jesus, she started crying because she loved Him so much. She was so thankful that Jesus loved her, even though she had made some bad choices.

She used her tears to wash Jesus’ feet and her hair to dry them off.

Then she opened her very special bottle of perfume. This perfume was the most special thing she had, and she poured it all over Jesus’ feet to show Him how much she loved Him and how thankful she was for Him.

The people at the party were confused. Why would Jesus let a woman who made bad choices wash His feet?

Did Jesus love this woman, even though she did bad things? Yes! Because nothing can make Jesus stop loving us. Jesus loves us so much!

Jesus loves us no matter what. And because Jesus loves us no matter what, we should love other people the same way.

Bible Paraphrase: How wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ. – Ephesians 3:18, NIV

Text Truth: Jesus loves me no matter what.

Family Devotional

Then he turned toward the woman and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet. You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured perfume on my feet. Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.” — Luke 7:44-47

Our Bible story was about a woman who didn’t have any friends because of the bad things she had done. But Jesus still loved her and was her friend.

When the woman heard Jesus was in town, she ran to see Him. She was so happy that Jesus loved her and was still her friend. When she saw Jesus, she started crying. She cried so much that her tears fell on His feet and she used them to wash His feet. Then she took her long hair and dried His feet. Then she used some special perfume to pour on His head. All of these things showed Jesus how thankful she was because He still loved her and was her friend.

The best part of this story is that Jesus loves you no matter what, just like He loved that woman. Nothing will ever make Jesus stop loving you.

How wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ. — Ephesians 3:18

With your family, make a list of the things you are sorry for. Maybe you didn't do what a family member told you to do or you had a bad attitude about something. Whatever it is, write it down! Just like the woman in the story was sorry for the bad things she did, we can tell Jesus we are sorry, too. Jesus loves us and will always forgive us.

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. Acknowledge that we all make bad choices. Thank God for sending Jesus so that we can be forgiven. Tell God you want to say you are sorry for (read your list) and that you want to make better choices. Thank God for loving you no matter what.
