Jesus Helped the Centurion
Matthew 8:5-13
Our true story comes from the Bible. It is found in the book, or part, of the Bible called Matthew. Matthew was one of the special helpers of Jesus.
Our story starts with the leader in an army. The army leader was very important. He was a centurion, which meant he was in charge of a lot of soldiers.
One day, a servant who worked for the centurion became very sick. He couldn't walk and was hurting very badly. The centurion wanted to help his servant get better, but he didn’t have the power to make him better. Then the centurion had an idea! He told his servant to rest and he would be back with help.
The centurion knew there was only one person who could help. There was only one person who had the power to heal his servant. And that person was Jesus! The centurion heard that Jesus was in a town called Capernaum (pronounced "cah-PER-nay-um"). So, the centurion went to the town.
When the centurion found Jesus, he told Him about his sick servant. Of course, Jesus wanted to help right away. Jesus told the centurion He would walk all the way back to his house to help the servant. But the centurion said, "Jesus, I know you have all the power to help my servant. You don’t even have to be there. Just say the word and I know my servant will be healed."
And that's what Jesus did. Jesus said the word right there.
And when the centurion got back home to his servant, his servant was all better! Jesus helped the centurion by healing his servant!
Jesus loves us and wants to help us too. Jesus wants to help you because He loves you.

With your family, make a list of things you need help with. It can be anything! Write the things down in your list along with the name of the family member who said it.
Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. Thank God for sending Jesus to help you all. Acknowledge that Jesus is a good friend. Read through your list. As you read your list of things, say the name of the family member: "(family member) needs help with (thing)." Acknowledge that you have a big list. But also acknowledge that God is a big God and Jesus can do anything.
