Take Care of the You God Made

1 Corinthians 6:19-20; 16:13-14

Our true story comes from a part, or book, of the Bible called First Corinthians (1 Corinthians). It is a letter written to the followers of Jesus who lived in a city called Corinth. The letter was written by another person who loved Jesus, named Paul.

God made you. God made your feet and your hands and your freckles and your skin. God made your belly button and our elbows, too.

God gave you a super special body. And the Bible says you should take care of your body that God made.

So, when you go outside to play, you should always wear shoes. They will protect your feet that God made.

When you are playing hard outside, you run and you jump and you sweat and you dig in the dirt, or you have a ball. But when it’s time to come inside, you are dirty. You need a bath to clean your body that God made.

When your tummy rumbles, it means you are hungry. When you have a snack, it should be something healthy. Maybe an apple. Your tummy will be happy, and you will have a lot of energy for your body that God made.

And if your arm is hurt, what would you put on it to help it heal faster? A bandage, yes! It will help to heal your arm that God made.

And when you have had a long day and it is time for bed, what should you do before you go to sleep? Brush your teeth. That will keep healthy and strong the teeth that God made.

God wants you to get sleep, brush our teeth, go to the doctor, eat healthy foods, and play outside. Remember that God made you, and you are important to Him, so take care of the body God gave you!

Bible Paraphrase: I am fearfully and wonderfully made. – Psalm 139:14, NIV

Text Truth: God made me to respect myself.

Family Devotional

Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies. – 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Our Bible story was about how we should respect our bodies because God made us. Taking care of our bodies by brushing our teeth and taking baths and eating healthy foods are all ways we can respect our bodies.

I am fearfully and wonderfully made– Psalm 139:14, NIV

God made you a wonderful body. That is why we should take care of our bodies and respect them. There many things we can do to respect the bodies God made for us. We can eat healthy foods, exercise, brush our hair, brush our teeth, take a bath, hold an umbrella over us in the rain, wear clothes so people don’t see our private parts, get check-ups at the doctor—the list is very long!

With your family, make a list of the things you want to do better to help respect your bodies. Ask each family member to say one thing and write it down. Maybe you need to brush your teeth better or not complain when you take a bath. These things are good for your body and show God that you’re thankful for the body He made for you.

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. Thank God for making your bodies. Acknowledge that you should respect your bodies and take care of them. Read through your list: "Please help (family member name) to (listed action)..." Acknowledge that you want to do all you can to show respect for the wonderful bodies God made.
