Jesus Made Breakfast for His Friends

John 21:1-14

Our true story is found in a part, or book, of the Bible called John. John loved Jesus and was one of the special helpers of Jesus.

Jesus died and was put in a tomb.

But three days later, Jesus came back as he promised. It was such good news!

Not long after, some of Jesus’ friends were out fishing in a boat.

While Jesus’ friends were fishing, they looked up and saw Jesus standing on the beach. They were so surprised to see their good friend Jesus!

Jesus’ friends hurried to go see Him. When they got to Jesus, He was cooking food for them. They had a picnic with Jesus right there on the beach. Jesus told them He loved them, and He would always be their friend. It was the best day ever!

Jesus wants to be your friend, too! Jesus loves you and is the best friend you will ever have. Jesus wants to be your friend forever!

Bible Paraphrase: A friend loves at all times. – Proverbs 17:17, NIrV

Text Truth: Jesus wants to be my friend forever.

Family Devotional

Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish you have just caught.” So Simon Peter climbed back into the boat and dragged the net ashore. It was full of large fish, 153, but even with so many the net was not torn. Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” None of the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord. Jesus came, took the bread and gave it to them, and did the same with the fish. This was now the third time Jesus appeared to his disciples after he was raised from the dead.   John 21:10-14

When Jesus’ friends saw Him standing on the beach, they were so excited to see Him again! Jesus told them to bring the fish they caught, so they did. When they got to Jesus, He was cooking fish and bread for them. They had a breakfast picnic right there on the beach. All of Jesus’ friends were so happy to have their good friend back. It was the best day ever!

But Jesus didn’t come back just to be their friend. Jesus came back to be your friend, too. And we know Jesus is the best friend ever because Jesus loves us at all times.

A friend loves at all times. – Proverbs 17:17

With your family, write down the names of your family. As you write down each name, ask that family member to say, "Jesus is my friend."

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. Thank God for each member of your family. Read through your list. Thank God that you have heard the Good News that Jesus is alive and that He wants to be your friend forever. Thank God for Jesus and that He is the kind of friend that loves you at all times.
