Jesus Gives You the Power to Love

1 Corinthians; John 3:16; John 13:34

Our true Bible story comes from a part of the Bible called First Corinthians (1 Corinthians). It is the first letter that a man named Paul wrote to the followers of Jesus in the town of Corinth. Our true Bible story also comes from a part of the Bible called John. John was one of the friends and helpers of Jesus.

Love! All things love begin with God, because God first loved us. And God’s love for us is amazing, wondrous, incredible, magnificent! There aren’t enough big words to tell you how big God’s wonderful love is! But this story will help show how big God’s love is!

In the book of John, the Bible teaches us that God loved us so much that He gave us his Son, Jesus, to be our friend forever. And when Jesus lived on the earth, He showed us how to love others.

How does Jesus love others? Well, Jesus loves all people all the time! Jesus loves people who are different than Him. Jesus loves people who have made bad choices...

Jesus loves grown-ups...

...and Jesus loves children, too.

And Jesus wants you and me to love people the way He loves people. It sounds hard. But when Jesus is your friend, you can love people the way He loves people. When Jesus is our friend, we can love people who are different than us. When Jesus is our friend, we can love people who have made bad choices. When Jesus is our friend, we can love everyone!

When Jesus is your friend, He gives you the power to love like He loves! Jesus gives you the power to do everything!

Bible Paraphrase: I can do everything by the power of Christ.  Philippians 4:13, NIrV

Text Truth: Jesus gives me the power to do everything.

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." — John 3:16

"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another."  — John 13:34

Our story is about how God loved us so much He gave us His Son, Jesus, to be our friend forever. Have you ever heard the story about when baby Jesus was born? We talk about that story a lot at Christmas. God loved the world so much that He gave us His Son, Jesus. Jesus showed us how to love people—ALL people. But that’s not the end of the story.

Have you ever heard the story about when Jesus died and came back, just like He promised? It’s true! We talk about that story a lot at Easter. Jesus died, and all of His friends were very sad. They thought He was gone forever, but three days later Jesus came back, just like He promised. Yes! Jesus is alive, and He wants to be your friend forever!

When we follow Jesus He gives us the power to love people the way He loves people. And Jesus loves people—ALL people—A LOT!

I can do everything by the power of Christ. – Philippians 4:13, NIrV

Christ is another name we call Jesus. You could say the verse like this: I can do everything by the power of Jesus. This verse teaches us that Jesus has the power to help us do everything—like love ALL people, just like Jesus loves ALL people.

With your family, make a list of people you want to love like Jesus loves us. It can be anybody! When we pray, we can thank God for sending Jesus to give us the power to LOVE people like He loves us.

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. Thank God for sending Jesus to show you how to love others. Thank God that Jesus died and came back, just like He promised, and that He gives you the power to love people like He loves people. Pray that each family member (name each family member) will follow Jesus so they can have the power to love (read the people on your list) the way Jesus loves them. Thank God for Jesus. And acknowledge your love for Him.
