God Made Light, Dark, Sky, Water
Genesis 1:3-8
Our true story comes from a book, or part, of the Bible called Genesis. The word genesis means “the beginning.”
Have you ever looked around and wondered who made everything? All the trees, the seashells, the pets, the yummy foods, your friends and family?
Our Bible story is all about who made everything. And the Who is God. God made everything! But let's go way back to the beginning—before there was a world or people or anything.
In the very beginning, there was nothing but God. So, God decided to make something—A LOT of somethings!
God said, "Let there be light!" And there was light. When God saw the light, He said, "That’s good!"
Then God separated the light from the darkness. He called the light day and God called the darkness night. Light and dark was day one of God making the world.
On day two, God said, "Let’s take water and put some way down low. And let’s put the sky way up high." Then God saw what He had made and said, "That’s good!"
Day one, God made the light and dark. Day two, God made the sky above the water. And this was just the beginning of God making everything!
Have you ever thought about who made the water we splash in when it rains? Or who made the dark when it’s time to go bed?
You know who made the water and dark because of our Bible story. We know God made the water and the dark because God made everything!
On day one, God made the light and dark. And on day two, God made the sky and water. And it was good.
With your family, make a list of things you want to thank God for that He made on days one and two. You can thank God for the light, the dark, the sky, or the water.
Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. Acknowledge to God that He is the only one who can make something from nothing. Acknowledge that He just had to say it and it was so. The light, the dark, the sky, and the water. Acknowledge that God is powerful. Thank God for making light, dark, sky, and water. Thank God for His love.

Family Devotional
And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.
And God said, “Let there be a vault between the waters to separate water from water.” So God made the vault and separated the water under the vault from the water above it. And it was so. God called the vault “sky.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the second day. – Genesis 1:3-8
