God Made Sun, Moon, Stars

Genesis 1:14-19

Our true story comes from a book, or part, of the Bible called Genesis. The word genesis means “the beginning.”

We have learned that in the very beginning there was nothing but God. Then, God made everything!

Day one, God made the light and dark...

Day two, God made the sky above the water...

Day three, God made the land, plants, and sea. And it was good.

On day four, God made a light for the day and a light for the night. What light shines in the sky during the day? The sun! The sun shines in the sky during the day! God gave us the sun to brighten up our days and help plants grow and keep us warm.

God also made a light for the night. What glows way up in the sky at night? The moon! The moon comes out each night to help us see. And God added lots and lots of little lights in the night sky. Do you know what the little lights are called? Stars! God filled the night sky with stars! And it was good.

Count with me: Day one, God made the light and dark. Day two, God made the sky above the water. Day three, God made land, plants, and sea. Day four, God made the sun, moon, and stars. But there was SO much MORE! Because God made everything!

Bible Paraphrase: God saw everything he had made. And it was very good. – Genesis 1:31, NIrV

Text Truth: On day four, God made the sun, moon, and stars.

Family Devotional

And God said, “Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years, and let them be lights in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth.” And it was so. God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. God set them in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth, to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day.
– Genesis 1:14-19

Can you imagine being SO powerful you could make the sun, moon, and stars? WOW! The sun, moon, and stars are HUGE! In our Bible story, we learned that on day four, God made the sun, moon, and stars. And God just didn’t make the sun, moon, and stars. God made the whole universe!

God saw everything he had made. And it was very good– Genesis 1:31 NIrV

With your family, make two lists. First, make a list of fun things you like to do when the sun is out. Then, list the fun things you like to do when the moon and stars are out.

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. Acknowledge to God that it is SO amazing to think about Him making the sun, moon, and stars. Thank God for making the sun so that you can (read your “sun” list). Thank God for making the moon and stars so that you can (read your “moon and stars” list). Acknowledge to God your love for Him.
