Jesus Can Do the Impossible

Matthew 14:22-33

Our true story comes from the Bible. It is found in the book, or part, of the Bible called Matthew. Matthew was one of the special helpers of Jesus.

Our story begins on a beach. Jesus had been teaching people all day. Jesus told His friends, the disciples, to get into the boat and go across the lake.


Jesus said goodbye to the crowd and went up on the mountain to pray by himself.


While the disciples were in the boat, the wind began to blow. The wind blew harder and harder. Jesus’ friends tried to row to safety. But the disciples weren’t strong enough. They didn’t know what to do.


But just then, they saw something on the water. It looked like a person! Jesus’ friends were scared. And they thought, "Could there really be a person walking on the water? No way. That’s impossible!" But remember: Who can do anything? Jesus can do anything.


Who do you think was walking on water toward them? It was Jesus!


Jesus said, "Don’t be afraid. It’s me!" Then Jesus walked to the boat and got in. And just like that, the wind stopped and everyone was okay.


Jesus did the impossible. He walked on water. And right then, His friends knew that Jesus IS the Son of God. They were amazed.


Never forget that Jesus can do anything because Jesus is God’s Son. Who can do anything? Jesus can do anything.

Family Devotional

Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone, and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it. Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. — Matthew 14:22-25

Our Bible story was about another thing that only Jesus can do. What did Jesus do in our story that only He can do? Yes! Jesus walked on water! And do you know how Jesus walked on water? Because Jesus is God’s Son and with God ALL things are possible!

With God all things are possible. – Matthew 19:26, NIV

With God all things are possible. And since Jesus is God’s Son, that means Jesus can do anything! That's how Jesus walked on the water.

With your family, make a list of your favorite things to do with water. They can be things like swimming, taking a bath, playing in the rain, fishing, boat rides—there are so many things you can do with water!

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. Thank God for water and for what He can do with water (read through your family's list). Thank God that Jesus can do anything, and that He can even walk on water! Thank God for His love. Acknowledge to God your love for Him.
