Jesus Feeds More Than Five Thousand People
Mark 6:31-44
Our true story comes from the Bible. It is in the part, or book, of the Bible called Mark. Mark loved Jesus and told people about Him.
Jesus was on the beach. Jesus and His friends had been working very hard. They were tired. They got in a boat and sailed to the other side of a lake called the Sea of Galilee. Jesus and His friends were hoping to get a little rest, but when they got to shore, they found a HUGE crowd of over 5,000 people who had come to see Jesus and to hear Him teach.
Jesus loved the people, so of course He got out of the boat to teach them. Jesus told the crowd that God loves them very much and God wants them to love others. This went on for a very long time until it got late in the day.
The people got hungry and they didn’t have any food with them. Jesus’ friends, the disciples, told Jesus to send the people away so they could eat in the town nearby. But Jesus said to his disciples, "You give them something to eat."
The disciples were thinking, "You want us to feed all these people?" But who do we know that can do anything? Jesus! Jesus is God’s Son, and He can do anything! So Jesus said, "Go see how many loaves of bread we have."
The disciples went and came back with one small lunch. There were one, two, three, four, five loaves of bread. And one, two fish! So, they had five loaves and two fish. Is that enough to feed more than 5,000 people? No! It seemed way too hard to feed that many people. But do you know what? Nothing is too hard for Jesus!
Jesus said, “Have all the people sit down.”
Jesus took the five loaves of bread and said a “thank-You” prayer to God.
Jesus told the disciples to pass out the food to all the people. So, they did. They kept passing out food—more and more and more food. So much food that everyone—over 5,000 people—ate until they were full. There were even leftovers of food.
Jesus fed over 5,000 people with just five loaves of bread and two fish. Jesus can do anything!
Bible Paraphrase: With God all things are possible. – Matthew 19:26, NIV
Text Truth: Nothing is too hard for Jesus.
Our Bible story was about something else Jesus did that only He can do. What did Jesus do in our story that only He can do? Jesus fed over 5,000 people with only two fish and five loaves of bread. And there were leftovers too! Jesus really can do anything because Jesus is God’s Son. And with God all things are possible.
With God all things are possible. And since Jesus is God’s Son, that means Jesus can do anything! That's how Jesus fed over 5,000 people with only two fish and five loves of bread.
With your family, make a list of our favorite foods. The people in our story ate fish and bread. But what do YOU like to eat?

Acknowledge to God your love for Him.

Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to his disciples to distribute to the people. He also divided the two fish among them all. They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces of bread and fish. The number of the men who had eaten was five thousand.
