God's Son, Jesus

The Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John)

Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called the Gospels. The word "Gospel" means "good news!"

God sent an angel to a woman named Mary. The angel had a very special message: Mary was going to have a baby boy. The baby’s name would be Jesus. Jesus is very special, because Jesus is God’s Son.

After Mary learned she was going to have a baby, she and Joseph had to travel to a city called Bethlehem. When Mary and Joseph got to Bethlehem, they had to stay in a stable where animals lived. They rested and waited for baby Jesus to be born.

Then, it happened! Jesus was born! Mary wrapped baby Jesus in a blanket and laid him in a manger.

Before long, Jesus grew up to be a big boy...

...and then a grown man!

When Jesus was a man, He did amazing things that only He can do! Jesus told a thunderstorm to stop, and it stopped!  Jesus made sick people better. He even fed over 5,000 people with just a few pieces of bread and fish!

The people who saw Jesus do these amazing things wrote them down. Now, we can read their stories in the Bible. These stories teach us that Jesus is real, and He can do amazing things. Now, we can believe in Jesus, too!

Bible Paraphrase: These are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. — John 20:31, NLV

Text Truth: I can believe in Jesus.

Family Devotional

Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. — John 20:30-31

Our Bible story was about God’s Son, Jesus. We learned how baby Jesus was born, and how He grew up to do amazing things that only He can do. People who saw Jesus do these amazing things, like walk on water and heal sick people, wrote down what they saw. Their stories are in the Bible. Now, we can read about what people saw Jesus do, and we can believe in Jesus!

Since we are learning stories about Jesus, make a list of your favorite Jesus stories. With your family, each of you write down your favorite. It can be when Jesus was born, walked on water, made sick people better, forgave people when they did something wrong, anything!

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. In your own words, acknowledge to God that Jesus did so many amazing things that only He can do. "Some of our favorite stories are..." (read through your family's list). Thank God for all of the people who wrote down what they saw Jesus do so that you can read about it and believe in Jesus, too. Ask God to help you all read the Bible, and believe in God's Son, Jesus. Thank God for His love and acknowledge to God your love for him.
