Paul in Rome

Acts 28:11-31

Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called Acts, which is short for “the Acts of the Apostles.” An apostle is someone who is sent to teach others about Jesus.

Our story is about a man named Paul. Paul believed in Jesus. He wrote letters to people telling them that Jesus is alive and He wants to be their friend forever.

Paul also traveled to cities to tell people, "Jesus is alive! And He wants to be your friend forever!" One of the cities Paul traveled to was called Rome. Rome is a big, beautiful city, and lots of people live there. The people in Rome are very smart, and they like to talk about important things. So, while Paul was in Rome, he talked with the people about Jesus. Paul knew that nothing is more important than Jesus!

Lots and lots of people came to hear what Paul had to say about Jesus. Paul would start talking about Jesus when the sun came up early in the morning.

Paul would keep talking about Jesus until the sun went down and the moon came up late at night. From morning until night, Paul told the people in Rome that Jesus tells the truth.

For example, Paul told them, "Jesus tells the truth when He says He is God’s Son. Jesus tells the truth when He says that if you believe in Him you will be His friend forever. Jesus tells the truth when He says He loves us and will never leave us."

Everything Jesus says is the truth, so we can believe in Him. Many of the people who heard what Paul said about Jesus believed in Jesus and decided to follow Him. And because Jesus tells the truth, we can believe in Him, too!

Bible Paraphrase: These are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. — John 20:31, NLV

Text Truth: I can believe in Jesus.

Family Devotional

They arranged to meet Paul on a certain day, and came in even larger numbers to the place where he was staying. He witnessed to them from morning till evening, explaining about the kingdom of God, and from the Law of Moses and from the Prophets he tried to persuade them about Jesus. Acts 28:23

Our Bible story was about a man named Paul who loved Jesus. Paul traveled to a city called Rome so he could tell the people about Jesus. He told them that everything Jesus says is the truth, because Jesus always tells the truth. We can read Paul’s story in the Bible. Paul wrote down what he knew about Jesus so we could read it and believe in Jesus, too.

These are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. — John 20:31, NLV

Paul wanted us to know that everything Jesus says is the truth. So, what are some of the things Jesus said? With your family, make a list of some of the things Jesus said. For example: Jesus said He is God’s Son. Jesus said He loves everyone. Jesus said to follow Him. Jesus said to love people the way He loves us. Jesus said He will always be with us. Jesus said He will hear us when we talk to Him. And Jesus said to let the children come to Him. Wow! Jesus said A LOT of great things, and they are ALL true.

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. In your own words, convey to God how wonderful it is to know that you can believe in Jesus and everything He said, because everything Jesus said is true. Note that Jesus said (read through your family's list). Because Jesus said it, you believe that Jesus is God's Son. Acknowledge that Jesus loves everyone, that Jesus wants you to follow Him, and that Jesus wants you to love people the way He loves you. Acknowledge that Jesus will always be with you and that Jesus will hear you when you talk to Him. Acknowledge that Jesus wants everyone to come to Him. Ask God to help you always believe in Jesus and in what He said. Thank God for His love and acknowledge to God your love for him.
