God Made Me to Help Others

1 Timothy 4:12; Acts 9:36-39

Our true story comes from a letter that our friend Paul wrote to his young friend Timothy. We can read Paul's letter in the Bible, where it is called First Timothy (1 Timothy). Our true story also comes from a part of the Bible called Acts, which is short for “The Acts of the Apostles.” An apostle is someone who is sent to teach people about Jesus.

Our story is about a woman named Tabitha. Tabitha loved God, and she helped people by making clothes for them. This was a really good thing, because there were a lot of people who needed her help. She made lots of clothes for them to wear.

Did you know that God made all people to be helpers? It’s true! God made you and me...ALL OF US to help other people! Whether you are a grown up or a kid, you can help!

You don’t have to be able to sew and make clothes like Tabitha did. God can use you in all kinds of different ways to help others!

Do you like to draw pictures? You can draw pictures and give them to people when they’re sad or when they’re sick. Making people smile is being a helper!

Do you like to play with toys? You can play toys with your little brother or sister or a friend in your neighborhood. Being a friend is being a helper!

Can you take your plate and fork to the sink when you’re done eating? Cleaning up our messes is being a helper!

You can help in so many ways, no matter how old or young you are, because God made you to help!

Bible Paraphrase: I am fearfully and wonderfully made. — Psalm 139:14, NIV

Text Truth: God made me.

Family Devotional

In Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha (in Greek her name is Dorcas); she was always doing good and helping the poor—Acts 9:36

Our Bible story was about how God made us to help others. Do you remember what Tabitha did to help others? Yes! Tabitha made clothes for people who didn’t have any. She might have even made a coat for someone so they could stay warm when it’s cold outside. God made all people to be helpers.

I am fearfully and wonderfully made. —Psalm 139:14, NIV

With your family, make a list of things you can do to help others. Have each family member write down one way they can help others. And be sure to write down the names of your family members.

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. In your own words, thank God "for making (say each family member's name) to help others like You. I pray You will help us do things like (reach your family's list). May we always try to leave people and places better than we found them." Thank God for His love and acknowledge to God your love for Him.
