Our true story is found in a part of the Bible called Genesis. The word genesis means “the beginning.” Our true story also comes from a part of the Bible written by a man named James. James loved God and told people what God wanted them to know.

Our true story begins in the very beginning, when God made a super-amazing gift. When someone who loves you MAKES you a gift, it is very special. This super-amazing gift is the earth! God made the earth—the place where we live—because God is good!

But that’s not all God made. God also made the flowers and the blue sky full of sunshine to help those flowers grow. God made the flowers, sky, trees, and grass because God is good!

But that’s not all God made. God also made yummy fruits, like oranges, apples, bananas, and grapes, and God made yummy vegetables, like corn, peas, carrots, squash, potatoes. Any fruit or vegetable you can think of, God made it. Why? Because God is good!

But that’s not all God made! God made frogs, raccoons, and butterflies; deer, squirrels, dogs, and cats; and bears, too. God made all these animals, and more! Why? Because God is good!

The Bible teaches us that God made the whole world and everything in it. Everywhere we look, we see good gifts that God made because—God is good!

Bible Paraphrase: Give thanks to the Lord for he is good. — Psalm 107:1, NIV

Text Truth: I can thank God for good things.

Family Devotional

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
James 1:17

Our Bible story today was about all the good things God made. God filled the world with all kinds of good things, like birds, food, flowers, and rainbows! It’s like God put gifts for us to find all over the world! Everywhere we look, we can see that God is good.

Give thanks to the LORD for he is goodPsalm 107:1, NIV

With your family, make a list of good things God made. Think about how God made the world and everything in it—kangaroos, rain drops, strawberries, sunshine, snowflakes, people . . . there are A LOT of things to think about!

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. In your own words, acknowledge to God that He is so good! And acknowledge that He made a wonderful world for you to live in and filled it with so many good gifts for you to enjoy. Thank God for some of those good things by reading through your family's list. Ask God to help you thank Him for His goodness every day. Thank God for His love, and acknowledge to God your love for Him.
