The Four Friends

Mark 2:1-12

Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called Mark. Mark loved Jesus and told people about Him so that they could know Jesus, too.

There are SO many amazing things we know for sure about Jesus. He’s God’s Son, He’s an amazing teacher, and here we will see Jesus do something NO one else can do.


One day, Jesus entered a town, and when people heard he was there, they came running. In fact, everyone crammed into the house where Jesus was teaching. They were so excited to see Jesus. But they weren’t the only ones who wanted to see Jesus. There was a man who had to be carried by his four friends because his legs didn’t work, and he couldn’t walk.


When the man and his friends heard that Jesus, God’s Son, was in town, they wanted to see Him. They knew He could do amazing things.


But the house was full of people, and they could NOT get in the front door.


So, what do you think the friends did? Do you think they gave up and went home? No. Do you think they found a way inside? Yes! They found a way inside. They decided to climb on the roof.


They got up on the roof. But how were they going to get their friend inside? They needed to dig a hole in the roof.


The friends dug a hole in the roof and lowered the man to Jesus.


When Jesus saw how much the man and his friends believed that He could help, Jesus did something amazing! Jesus told the man to get up and walk.


And he did! Jesus made him all better! All the people were amazed. The people who saw what Jesus did had never seen anything like it! Jesus is God’s Son, and He can do things NO one else can do. He is out-of-this-world amazing.

Family Devotional

Some men came, bringing to him a paralyzed man, carried by four of them. Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus by digging through it and then lowered the mat the man was lying on.
—Mark 2:3-4 

Our Bible story was about four friends who carried their friend to see Jesus. They had heard that Jesus could do amazing things, so they walked and walked until they got to the house where Jesus was. When they couldn’t get in the door because of all the people, they climbed on the roof and lowered their friend down! They were SO glad they did, because when Jesus saw their friend, He made his legs all better so he could walk! AMAZING! Jesus was always doing amazing things when He lived on Earth.

Jesus still has the power to heal and make people better. Jesus wants us to talk to Him when we don’t feel well, when we have a friend who doesn’t feel well, or when someone in our family doesn’t feel well. He wants us to talk to Him and trust Him with everything! With your family, each of you write down the name of one person you know who needs Jesus to help them feel better.

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. In your own words, thank God for giving you Jesus to be your friend forever. Thank God that Jesus loves you and wants to help you. Acknowledge to God that you know Jesus has the power to heal you and make you better. Acknowledge your trust that Jesus will always help you do hard things. Thank God for His love and acknowledge to God your love for Him.
