The Thankful Woman

 Luke 7:36-50

Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called the Gospel of Luke. Luke loved Jesus and wanted others to know and love Jesus, too. And the word gospel means “good news!”

We begin with a special dinner. This special dinner was for Jesus. As Jesus and the people ate and talked, a woman who was not invited, walked in carrying a bottle of perfume.

Well, the woman sat down near Jesus’ feet and she started to cry. The woman cried because Jesus had forgiven her for making bad choices. She knew Jesus loved her, no matter what!

The woman was so thankful Jesus loved her that she wanted to do something special for Him. So, she washed His feet. The woman washed Jesus’ feet with her tears and dried them with her hair.

Remember that perfume she brought? She poured the perfume on Jesus’ feet!

The people at the party thought Jesus should stay away from her. “You don’t know what she’s done,” they said.

Do you think Jesus agreed with them? No way! Jesus just smiled. Jesus smiled because He DID know. Jesus knew everything the woman had done, and He could see how sorry she was and how much she loved Him. Jesus told her, “Woman, you are forgiven. Now go in peace.”

Friends, there is nothing, absolutely nothing you could ever do to make Jesus stop loving you. Not one thing. He loves you, no matter what!

Bible Paraphrase: A friend loves at all times. — Proverbs 17:17, NIrV

Then Jesus said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.”
Luke 7:48

Our Bible story was about how Jesus loves us, no matter what. Even though the woman in the story had made a lot of wrong choices, Jesus still loved her and forgave her. Jesus did that because a friend loves at ALL times.

A friend loves at all times. —Proverbs 17:17, NIrV

In our Bible story, we learned that Jesus loves us, no matter what. Jesus loves us when we’re happy, sad, angry, and even when we make wrong choices. Anytime we make a wrong choice, we can talk to Jesus about it and tell Him we’re sorry. Jesus will always love us and forgive us, because Jesus is a friend who loves at all times.

With your family, make a list of wrong choices you've made. Everyone has made a wrong choice before. That’s why everyone needs to know that Jesus loves them, no matter what.

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. In your own words, thank God for sending Jesus to love you, no matter what. Thank God that He is the kind of friend who forgives you every time and will never, ever stop loving you. Agree that every person in the world has made wrong choices, and we all need Jesus to forgive us. Tell God you want to say you are sorry for (read through your family's list). And pray that (name each family member) will always talk to God about their choices and trust that Jesus loves them, no matter what. Thank God for His love and tell God that you love Him, too. Close your prayer, "In Jesus' name, amen."
