God Made Me

Genesis 1:26; Psalm 139:14

Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called Genesis. The word genesis means “the beginning.” Our true story also comes from a part of the Bible called Psalms. The word psalm means holy song or special song.

We begin with . . . nothing. That’s because the world started with nothing. Do you know how HARD it is to make a whole world from nothing? Who do you think is the only one powerful enough to make the whole world from nothing? You’re right. Only God is THAT powerful.

God made the whole world from nothing. He made plants and animals, trees, the sun, and the ocean. God created it all with His power!

And then He made his most amazing creation. Do you know what it is? Take your finger and point to your chest. Yes! People!

God made us. Now do you think when He made people that he needed hammers and screws and giant pieces of wood or bricks like construction people use when they make buildings? No! God didn’t need a hammer. He used His power.

And God made us amazing. God made us creative.

And smart.

And God made us to be helpers.

God made us all different sizes and shapes and colors! He made some of us good at basketball. He made some of us amazing soccer players. God made some of us great at taking care of animals. And some of us are awesome at building towers with our blocks. He made each of us different, and we are all wonderful! God made each of us to be smart, creative, and helpers like Him. And He did ALL that with HIS power. God is powerful!

Bible Paraphrase: Great is our LORD and mighty in power. —Psalm 147:5, NIV

Text Truth: God Made Me.

Family Devotional

Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
—Genesis 1:26

Our Bible story was about how God is SO powerful that He made everything out of nothing! God made beautiful flowers that smell like perfume, apple trees and berry bushes that give us yummy food, HUGE oceans with magnificent whales and colorful fish swimming around, the warm sun, and all of the twinkling stars! Then God made His favorite . . . PEOPLE! Wow! God IS powerful!

Great is our LORD and mighty in power. —Psalm 147:5, NIV

With your family, make a list of things God used His power to make. It can be anything in the world, because God made the world and everything in it!

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. In your own words, say, “Dear God, thank You for making such a wonderful world filled with so many wonderful things. Help us remember how powerful You are every time we see a (read the list your family made). God, thank You for making (say each family member's name). I hope they always know how special they are because You made them. We love You, God. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
