Jesus Is Born

Luke 2:1-7

Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called the Gospel of Luke. Luke loved Jesus and wanted others to know and love Jesus, too. And the word gospel means “good news!”

We begin with a word that starts with the letter J! The word is a name for a very special baby.

A woman named Mary and her husband, Joseph lived in a town called Nazareth. But they need to go far away to a city called Bethlehem.

They could have walked to Bethlehem, but Mary was going to have a baby. She couldn’t walk aaaaall that way. So, she needed a ride. Hmm . . . what do you think Mary rode to Bethlehem? Do you think Mary rode on a bus? No, Mary didn’t ride a bus to Bethlehem.

Do you think Mary rode on a train? No, Mary didn’t ride a train to Bethlehem, either.

Mary probably rode on an animal. Like a donkey!

When Mary and Joseph finally got to Bethlehem, they needed to find a place to stay. So, they began looking around town. They knocked on Door A. But there wasn’t any room there.

Then they knocked on Door B. But there wasn’t any room there, either. Oh, no! Where will Mary and Joseph stay?

Well, they knocked on Door C. And the innkeeper didn’t have any room inside, but he told Joseph and Mary that they could stay in his stable.

A stable is a place where people keep their animals. And it was in that stable, with all of the animals, that something AMAZING happened. A very special baby was born. His name is Jesus! “J” is for Jesus!

God loves us so much that He gave us Jesus!

Bible Paraphrase: God has given a son to us. Isaiah 9:6, NCV

Text Truth: Jesus is born.

Family Devotional

So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them. —Luke 2:4-7

Our Bible story was about when Jesus was born! "J" is for JESUS! Mary and Joseph looked and looked and finally found a stable to stay in. And it was in that stable that God gave us Jesus because He loves us SO much! How do we know God loves us?”

God has given a son to us. —Isaiah 9:6, NCV

With your family, tell Jesus "Happy Birthday!" On a piece of paper, write "JESUS" really big. And one by one, have your family write "Happy Birthday, Jesus!" on the paper.

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. In your own words, say, “Dear God, Thank You that we get to learn about the true story of Christmas. Thank You that Jesus was born and He wants to be our friend forever. We love You, God. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
