Animals & People

Genesis 1:24-31

Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called Genesis. The word genesis means “the beginning.”

We’ve learned a LOT so far.

We know that on day one . . . God made light and dark.

On day two . . . God made sky over the water.

On day three . . . God made land, plants, and sea.

And on day four . . . God made the sun . . . and the moon and stars.

And on day five, God made fish and birds.

But God wasn’t done! On day six, God made . . . all the animals! God made giraffes, elephants, penguins, bunnies, cows, snakes, sheep, zebras, sloths, llamas, and so many more. When you look at all the animals God made, you see just how loving and creative God is!

But God still wasn’t done. Because on day six, God also made His most SPECIAL creation. On day six, God created . . . PEOPLE! God made the first man, named Adam . . .

. . and the first woman, named Eve.

God told Adam and Eve to eat the fruit from the trees in the garden and to watch over all the animals. God saw ALL that He had made and He said, “That’s good!”

And after God made people, when God looked at ALL that He had made, He said, “That’s VERY good!”

Okay, let’s see if we can remember what God made on all the days. On day one, God made light and dark. On day two, God made sky over the water. On day three, God made land, plants, and sea. On day four, God made the sun, the moon, and stars. On day five, God made fish and birds! And on day six, God made animals . . . and people! God made everything, including wonderful and amazing YOU!

Bible Paraphrase: God saw everything he had made. And it was very good. Genesis 1:31, NIrV

Text Truth: On day six, God made animals and people.

Family Devotional

And God said, “Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: the livestock, the creatures that move along the ground, and the wild animals, each according to its kind.” And it was so. God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.

Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.” —Genesis 1:24-28

In our Bible story, we learned that God made animals and people! Not only did God make our favorite animals, but He made you and me and every person in the world! God really did make everything!

God saw everything he had made. And it was very good. —Genesis 1:31, NIrV

Yes, God made all the animals. So, with your family, make a list of some of the animals God made. Have each family member write down the name of an animal. And if they cannot write, they can draw a picture of the animal.

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. In your own words, say, “Dear God, You made the whole world and everything in it. Thank You for making so many wonderful animals like the (name the animals your family member wrote or drew). And most of all, thank You for making people. Thank You for making (name each family member). They are all so wonderful. You are the best, God, and we love You. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
