Birds & Fish

Genesis 1:20-21

Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called Genesis. The word genesis means “the beginning.”

We’ve learned a LOT so far.

We know that on day one . . . God made light and dark.

On day two . . . God made sky over the water.

On day three . . . God made land, plants, and sea.

And on day four . . . God made the sun . . . and the moon and stars.

So when did God make the fish and birds? On day five! On day five, God made everything that swims in the sea: dolphins and jellyfish, clownfish and octopus, and giant whales!

Then God made birds: eagles and bluebirds, cockatoos and hummingbirds, owls and geese! God made birds to fly above the land. Birds are amazing with their wonderful colors and shapes and wings. All different, but all so special!

When God saw what he had made, God said, “That’s good!”

Okay, so let’s remember all the things God made that we know so far. Count them on your fingers with me. On day one, God made light and dark. On day two, God made sky over water. On day three, God made land, plants, and sea. On day four, God made the sun and the moon and stars. On day five, God made fish and birds! But God wasn’t finished yet because God made everything.

Bible Paraphrase: God saw everything he had made. And it was very good. Genesis 1:31, NIrV

Text Truth: On day five, God made the birds and fish.

Family Devotional

And God said, “Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the vault of the sky.” So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living thing with which the water teems and that moves about in it, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
—Genesis 1:20-21

In our Bible story, we learned that God made all of the fish and birds! Flamingos and parrots, rainbowfish and pufferfish—God made them all because God made everything!

God saw everything he had made. And it was very good. —Genesis 1:31, NIrV

In our Bible story, we learned that God made all of the fish and birds. So, with your family, write down a fish or bird that God made. If you like, you may draw a picture of a fish or bird. And there are so many fish and birds from which to choose. Because God made all of them!

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. In your own words, say, “Dear God, thank You for making so many different kinds of fish and birds for us to enjoy and learn about. You are so good and creative! No one can do what You do, God. We love You. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
