God Rested

Genesis 1:1–2:3

Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called Genesis. The word genesis means “the beginning.”

Can you remember all the things God made? Let’s count off the days with me.

On day one . . . God made light and dark.

On day two . . . God made the sky over the water.

On day three . . . God made land, plants, and sea.

And on day four . . . God made the sun . . . and the moon and stars.

On day five . . . God made fish and birds!

And on day six . . . God made animals.

Also on day six, God made His most SPECIAL creation. PEOPLE!

Do you know what God did AFTER He made everything? On day seven . . . God stopped! God rested.

God stopped to look around at all the beautiful things He had made. God saw the sun, the land, the plants, the sea, the birds, the fish, and the animals. God saw His most fantastic, amazing creation. . . people. And on day seven. . . God rested. God saw everything He had made and what did He say? God said, “That’s VERY good.” God made EVERYTHING

Bible Paraphrase: God saw everything he had made. And it was very good. Genesis 1:31, NIrV

Text Truth: God looked at everything He made. Then He rested.

Family Devotional

God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.

Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array.

By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. 3 Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.
—Genesis 1:31-2:3

In our Bible story, God finished all His work. He had made the whole world and everything in it: light and dark; sky and water; land, plants, and sea; sun, moon, and stars; birds and fish; land animals and people! God made everything!

God saw everything he had made. And it was very good. —Genesis 1:31, NIrV

With your family, make a list of your favorite things that God made. There’s a lot to choose from! It can be anything in the whole, wide world because God made everything!

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. In your own words, say, “Dear God, You are SO awesome! You made the whole world and everything in it! And it is all so very good! Thank You for making (read the list your family made). These are some of our favorite things that You made. Help us stop, rest, and look at the wonderful world You made for us to live in. We love You, God. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
