When Jesus Is Your Friend Forever

John 3:16

Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called Mark. Mark loved Jesus and told people about Him.

We have been learning SO much about how Jesus can help us do everything! And today, we have another thing Jesus can help us do! When we first started talking about how Jesus can help us do everything, we learned that God loves us so much He gave us His Son, Jesus, to be our friend forever!


When Jesus is your friend forever, Jesus can help you do everything! Jesus can help you choose . . . love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.


When Jesus is your friend forever, He gives you power. It’s like big, strong muscle power! He can help you have the power of SELF-CONTROL. That means you have the power to choose to do the right thing!


Let’s say you have a friend over to play outside, and they see your brand-new scooter. They tell you they want to play with it. Should you choose GOODNESS and share your scooter or not share your scooter? Yes! Share your scooter with your friend! That’s the power of SELF-CONTROL. Choosing GOODNESS is SELF-CONTROL. Way to go!


Let’s do another one. Let’s say you’re in the car with your family, and it’s a really long trip. Like really long. You want to watch a movie on the device, but your sister is playing a game on it. Should you be upset and have a grumpy face? Or should you choose PATIENCE and wait your turn with a happy heart? Yes! You should choose PATIENCE and wait with a happy heart. That’s the power of SELF-CONTROL. Way to go!


Let’s do one more. Let’s say you can’t find your favorite fluffy bunny. And you’ve looked everywhere. Do you get mad about it, or do you choose JOY and ask someone to help you look for it? Yes! You choose JOY and ask for help. Choosing JOY when things are hard is SELF-CONTROL!


Great job! Jesus can help you choose SELF-CONTROL because Jesus can help you do everything!

Family Devotional

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. —John 3:16

In our Bible story, we learned that when Jesus is our friend forever, He gives us the power like a strong muscle, to do what is right. His power helps us choose love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, and gentleness. Whew! That’s a lot Jesus can help us with because Jesus can help us do everything!

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life.” —John 14:6, NIV

When Jesus is your friend forever, Jesus can help you do everything! Jesus can help you choose love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. So, with your family, make a list of these things and have each family member choose one of the things, and right down each family member's name next to the thing they choose.

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. In your own words, say, “Dear God, thank You for giving us Jesus to be our friend forever. Thank You that Jesus can help [family member’s name] choose [thing they chose]. Thank You that Jesus can help [family member’s name] choose [thing they chose]. Thank you . . . (continue with each family member and the thing they chose). We love You, God. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
