God Made You

Genesis 1

Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called Genesis. The word genesis means “the beginning.

God is SO creative that He made everything! God made the big open sky. God made the sun and the moon and the stars, too!

God made the giant oceans and small ponds.

God made mountains and trees and flowers. God made all the birds. God made the fish.

God made eagles and elephants. God made peacocks with beautiful feathers and bears that growl!

God made everything! And after making everything, God made the very best thing of all. Do you want to know what it is? The very best thing that God made was . . . people. God made people!

Every person in the whole wide world was made by God. Your mom. Your dad. Your brother. Your sister. Your aunt. Your friend. Your neighbor. And the lady at the library. That also means that God made . . . YOU!

God made you wonderful. You are God’s amazing work of art. God made itty bitty bugs and tiny blades of grass . . . And God made YOU! God made the WHOLE big sky . . . And huge wide oceans. And God made YOU!

God made this whole, huge, AMAZING world full of fantastic things. And then God made the most special thing of all. Do you remember what it is? God made PEOPLE. You and me.

You can praise God because God is awesome. God is the awesome artist who made everything, and God made you wonderful.

Bible Verse: I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Psalm 139:14, NIV

Text Truth: God made everything, and God made you.

Family Devotional

Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. —Genesis 1:26-27

In our Bible story, we learned that God made EVERYTHING. And that means God made YOU! But God didn’t make you like He made everything else in the world. You are wonderfully made by God, in His image. Wow! That’s super-special!

I am fearfully and wonderfully made. —Psalm 139:14, NIV

With your family, make a list of things God made. Have each of your family members write down a thing that God made. It can be anything because God made everything!

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. In your own words, say, “Dear God, thank You for making this amazing world for us to live in. Thank You for all of the flowers and foods and animals for us to enjoy. But most of all, thank You for making us in Your image. Thank You that [family member’s name] is wonderfully made by You. Thank You that [family member’s name] is wonderfully made by You. (Repeat with family member.) You are amazing, God, and we love You. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
