In God’s Image

Acts 17:24; Psalm 46:1; Proverbs 2:6

Our true story is found in the Bible. Some is found in a part called Acts. That name is short for “the Acts of the Apostles.” The word "Apostle" is another word to describe a helper of Jesus. Some is found in a part called Psalms. The word psalm means holy song (or special song). And some is found in a part called Proverbs. A proverb is a wise truth.

Our true story is about the maker of ALL people. Who do you think it is? God! That’s right. God made people, and God made us to be like Him.

But no two people are the same. Not even twins!

Some people are girls. Some are boys. Some have . . . red hair, black hair, blonde, or brown hair. God made us ALL in the most wonderful way.

God created people with fingers. God gave us toes. What about our eyes? God gave us eyes, and He also gave us ears. God created people with legs and arms and a mouth and teeth! God even gave us a brain to think. Incredible, right? God is amazing, and God made us to be like Him.

Now, speaking of our brains. God gave us very special brains. God made us to think and learn. It’s true! There are SO many things we can think about like . . . How can I be a good friend? How do I tie my shoes? What do I want for a snack?

We can think about and learn new things every day. In fact, we’re learning new things about God, right now!

And God made us SO creative. Do love to dance? Me, too! Do you love to sing? I know you do! Do you love to build towers with blocks? Awesome! That’s because God made us creative like Him!

And do you know one of the BEST things we can do with our amazing, wonderful, creative selves? We can help others! Yes. God made us to help. We can help others by cleaning up or drawing get well cards or even saying kind words.

Isn’t that awesome? We can think and create and help! God made us wonderful.

Bible Verse: I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Psalm 139:14, NIV

Text Truth: I am wonderfully made in God’s image.

Family Devotional

“The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands.”
—Acts 17:24

In our Bible story, we learned that God made us in His image. And because God thinks, creates, and helps, He made us to think, create, and help, too! We really are wonderfully made!

I am fearfully and wonderfully made. —Psalm 139:14, NIV

With your family, make a list of ways you can help since God made us to help. Have each family member write down a way to help, and have them write down their name next to it.

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. In your own words, say, “Dear God, thank You for making (name each family member) in Your image to do all kinds of wonderful things like (read the list your family made). Help us keep thinking, creating, and helping, just like You. We love You, God. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
