Wonderfully Made

Genesis 1:26; Psalm 139:14

Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called Genesis. The word genesis means “the beginning.” Our true story also comes from a part of the Bible called Psalms. The word psalm means holy song or special song.

Remember that the Bible is God’s word to us, and it is true. The Bible begins by telling us how God made everything. God made the grass and the trees and the sky and the sun. But that’s not all! God made the most wonderful thing of all—YOU! God made every single part of your body. Every single part.

What part of the body helps you see? That’s right. Your eyes! God made our eyes. We can use our eyes to see all the beautiful things God made.

God also made something that we use to hear. What part of the body helps you hear? That’s right! Our ears. God made our ears. We use our ears to hear all kinds of things! What sounds do you hear at the beach? I love to hear the waves and the seagulls. What sounds might you hear in at a park? Yes, you would probably hear kids laughing and playing.

What part of the body helps you laugh and sing? Can you point to it? That’s right! God made our mouths! We can sing with our mouths. We can use our mouths to shout and laugh on the playground. We can use our mouths if we need to ask for help. And we can use our mouths to say kind words to our friends.

God made every part of you. God made our eyes and ears and mouth and what else did God make? Oh, I know! What part of our body do we smell with? Your nose! God made your nose. We use our noses to smell all kinds of things. What is your favorite thing to smell? There are so many wonderful things to smell like flowers and food.

Wow! God made every single part of you, from the tippy top of your head . . . all the way down to your arms and hands and fingers . . . down to your legs and feet and the very tips of your toes. God made you wonderful!

Bible Verse: I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Psalm 139:14, NIV

Text Truth: I am wonderfully made.

Family Devotional

So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. —Genesis 1:27

In our Bible story, we learned that every person in the whole world is wonderfully made by God. And the Bible verse we’re learning will help us remember that we are wonderfully made by God.

I am fearfully and wonderfully made. —Psalm 139:14, NIV

You are wonderfully made by God. So, with your family, make a list of things you like about yourselves. Each of you, write down one thing you really like about yourself and have each family member write down their name next to their thing.

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. In your own words, say, “Dear God, thank You for making [family member’s name]’s (what they listed), and thank You for making [family member’s name]’s (what they listed). (Continue with each family member.) Help us remember that every person is wonderfully made by You, and that makes all people very special. We love You, God. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
