You Are Important to God

Luke 12:7

Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called the Gospel of Luke. Luke loved Jesus and wanted others to know and love Jesus, too. And the word gospel means “good news!”

God made everything in the whole wide world, including you! It’s true.

God made you, and you are SO important to Him. In fact, you are SO important to God that He knows how many hairs are on your head.

Have you ever tried to count the hairs on your head? Grab your hair and attempt this. If you have short hair, this will be even harder and funnier. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten . . . there are SO many hairs on my head! I don’t think we could ever count them all! I’ve never even thought about counting how many hairs are on my head, but God knows how many there are because I am SO important to Him. And so are wonderful you.

In fact, you are important to God, no matter where you are. Are you important to God when you’re at the playground playing in the sandbox? Yes! You are important to God when you’re at the playground.

Let’s do another one. You are important to God at the . . . doctor’s office! You’re important to God when you are at the doctor’s office, for sure.

Are you important to God when you’re sleeping? Yes! You are important to God when you’re asleep in your bed at night. You are important to God, no matter where you are. And you’re important to God, no matter what you do.

You’re important to God if you’re singing loudly.

You’re important to God if you’re reading a book.

You’re important to God if you’re waiting at the end of the line.

You’re important to God even if you’re doing nothing at all!

You are so important to God that He sent His Son, Jesus, to show you how to live and to be your friend forever. I’m so glad that we’re important to God and that He made each of us wonderful.

Bible Verse: I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Psalm 139:14, NIV

Text Truth: I am important to God.

Family Devotional

Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. —Luke 12:7

In our Bible story, we learned that we are so important to God that He knows how many hairs are on our head. That should make you feel very special. Because you are! You are wonderfully made by God!

I am fearfully and wonderfully made. —Psalm 139:14, NIV

With your family, have each person write down how many hairs they think are on their head. Since this is just for fun, make a fun guess! And write down the name of each family member next to their guess.

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. In your own words, say, “Dear God, we should never wonder if we are important to You. We are so important to You that You even know how many hairs are on our heads. Please help us treat everyone like they are important because every person is important to You. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
