Moses Is Frustrated
Numbers 11:4-17
Our true story from the Bible begins with a man named Moses. Moses had a very important job. Moses was the leader of God’s people, the Israelites. And Moses was frustrated.
Moses was frustrated because he had been trying to lead the Israelites and do what was best for them. But they kept complaining!
First, they were whining because they were hungry. So, every morning, God rained down bread from the sky for them to eat.
Then they complained because they were thirsty. So, God made water come out of a rock so they had something to drink.
Moses thought for sure that NOW they would be happy. But no. They still complained. They wanted more food . . . different food. No matter what God did, they were whiny!
And Moses felt . . . frustrated!
Moses went and talked to God because Moses knew he could always talk to God about everything. Moses asked God how he could keep leading the Israelites when they were so whiny. Moses asked God why it was his job to take care of them all.
God listened to Moses, and then sent people to help Moses take care of all the Israelites.
God loved Moses and helped him so he wouldn’t have to do the job alone. Do you ever feel frustrated? Of course, you do! We all do! Like when we can’t tie our shoe after trying a bazillion times. That is frustrating. Can we talk to God when we feel frustrated? Yes! We can always talk to God about how we feel because God loves us no matter what!
Bible Verse: Trust in the Lord with all your heart. —Proverbs 3:5, NIV
Text Truth: God loves me when I’m frustrated.
Family Devotional
Moses heard the people of every family wailing at the entrance to their tents. The Lord became exceedingly angry, and Moses was troubled. He asked the Lord, “Why have you brought this trouble on your servant? What have I done to displease you that you put the burden of all these people on me?
—Numbers 11:10-11
In our Bible story today, we learned that we can always talk to God about how we feel, and God will help us. Moses talked to God about feeling frustrated. What did God do when Moses talked to Him? God helped Moses!
Do you remember why Moses talked to God about feeling frustrated? Because God loved Moses no matter what, and God loves you no matter what, too.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart. —Proverbs 3:5, NIV
Hearing the Israelites complain over and over and over again made Moses very frustrated. So, with your family, make a list of things that make you feel frustrated. It might be something like having trouble learning something new or a little brother or sister not letting you watch what you want on TV or having to wait for food when you’re really hungry. As your family members write down things, write each family member’s name next to their thing.
Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. In your own words, say, “Dear God, sometimes we feel frustrated. [Family member’s name] feels frustrated when (read what they listed). [Family member’s name] feels frustrated when (read what they listed). (Continue with each family member and what they listed.) Please help us remember that when we feel frustrated, we can always talk to You about it, and You will love us no matter what. You’re the best, God. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
