Wise Men

Matthew 2:1-2, 9-11

Our true story comes from a part of the Bible called the Gospel of Matthew. Matthew was a disciple of Jesus. That means Jesus was his teacher. And the word gospel means “good news!”

We are celebrating a very special day because we’re celebrating someone very special! Do you know who that very special someone is? JESUS! We’re celebrating Jesus! And Jesus is special because Jesus is God’s Son! We have been learning all about the true story of Christmas right from the Bible. And now, I’ll tell you one more part of the Christmas story.

After Jesus was born, God put something special in the sky. Do you think God put a teddy bear in the sky?

No, it wasn’t a teddy bear. Do you think God put a pillow in the sky?

No, it wasn’t a pillow either. Do you think God put a special star in the sky? Yes!

When God put that special star in the sky, some Wise Men saw it. The Wise Men knew the star was special, and that they should follow it. So, they did!

The Wise Men followed the special star for a long time, then it finally stopped over a house. Guess who was inside that house. Jesus! Jesus was in the house that the star stopped over!

When the Wise Men saw Jesus, they bowed down and worshipped Him. They gave Jesus special gifts because they knew Jesus was special.

And we know Jesus is special, right? Right! Jesus is special because Jesus is God’s Son! And like the Wise Men celebrated Jesus by bowing down and giving Him gifts, we’re celebrating Jesus!

Bible Paraphrase: God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son. —John 3:16, GNT

Text Truth: The Wise Men come to see God’s Son.

Family Devotional

When they saw the star, they were filled with joy. The Wise Men went to the house. There they saw the child with his mother Mary. They bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures. They gave him gold, frankincense and myrrh.
—Matthew 2:10-11

In our Bible story, we learned how the Wise Men followed a special star all the way to Jesus. When they finally saw Jesus, they bowed down and worshipped Him. Then they gave Jesus gifts. The Wise Men knew Jesus is special. And why is Jesus special? Jesus is God’s Son!

God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son. —John 3:16, GNT

With your family, make a list of the favorite gifts you have been given. Have each family member write down their name next to the gift they say.

Pray with your family. Allow any family members to pray if they wish. In your own words, say, “Dear God, thank You for loving us so much that You gave us Your Son, Jesus. Merry Christmas, God! We love You! In Jesus’ name, amen.”
